Shout out to folks with Acquired Stuttering!
People pmo so much when it comes to speech impediments and/or fluency disorders. I've got a pretty bad stutter, and I've realized in almost every single fucking first meeting I have with someone, they point it out; either by mimicking it, or outright saying it. Or, they give me fucking advice (despite them not having a chronic stutter).
"Oh, you stutter-" You don't fucking say.
"Calm down-" The fact that you pointed it out by telling me to "calm down", which won't even make me calm down, just points out the fact that I'm stuttering, and now I feel rushed to get over the stutter instead of you just patiently fucking waiting for me; which would arguably make me feel better. I know I'm stuttering. It's annoying me too. But arguably, making me feel safe in the moment much more important than you being passive aggressive, or feeling annoyed at the fact that I am stuttering; which is out of my control. Even if you aren't being passive aggressive, that's still the message you send me. Interrupting me, even whilst I'm stuttering, isn't going to make me stutter less.
"The-the-the-the-" Get a new joke. If you're gonna make fun of me, at least be creative about it.
