The Critical Writing text written in conjunction with Flow Pool, “Float” by Birgit Rathsmann, is now available as an audio file. Birgit invited a colleague to dictate her text, making it into a piece of digital ephemera.

For the event, “An Evening with Underwater New York,” poet Kelly Sullivan wrote two new poems. On her source of inspiration, Kelly notes: “I had intended to write a poem about all of the bodies that end up in the New York City waterways. [...] But this exploration of drowned bodies turned into a litany of the things we submerge and that later emerge again, sometimes in a different form.”

Ballard’s science fiction novel The Drowned World will be one of three references for the Flow Pool reading group meeting this Saturday, April 23 from 3-5 pm. Join us to discuss this text along with Rising Currents: Projects for New York’s Waterfront by Barry Bergdoll and the documentary film Watermark by Edward Burtynsky and Jennifer Baichwal. You do not need to read or watch the materials in advance--just come prepared to exchange ideas about how water impacts humanity!

Marie is part of an exhibition organized by High Line art, opening on April 21. For this show, Marie will install three rowboats on the underside of the park at Gansevoort Plaza and will periodically lower them in order to take visitors on boat rides on the Hudson River. 

Marie has started to conduct sound experiments using a hydrophone-- a microphone designed to be used underwater. Listen here to the sounds of the flow pool’s currents and its floating objects.
