Cherry Blossom || The twenties
I remember him. What a great man he was. We used to work together, at wednesdays. I never tought such things could happen. It all started in a fresh afternoon in 1925. Crazy lights. Busy streets. Music and parties. Everyone would enjoy themselves in that time. And was in that moment he asked me that. Some said he was a secret spy, others would say he was a serial killer. No one discovered who he was, except me. Everyone respected him. I never knew his first name. But his last name was Tveit. And with this introduction Iām going to start talking about that great man.Ā
We were sitting on his backyardās bench. He called me that afternoon. He was doing suspense, thrilling me. He havenāt said a word till then. When I was about to quit I hear his voice. āPattrick, youāre going to help me.ā He said with his cold voice. āIām in trouble.āĀ What kind of trouble.Ā I tought, but I decided not to ask. āThere are this guys who want to hurt the woman I love. They are dangerous.ā I stayed quiet in the shadows. Then Ā my voice sounded. āWhat you need messieur?ā I asked. Mr Tveit laughed. āNothing muchā¦ā His voice was weak. āYou just need to be here tomorrow at 2pm.ā He said entering into his house. It was time for me to leave.Ā
The night was getting darker. I was already at home, alone. I picked my book and started reading. Then something came to mind. Tveitās love. It was the first time Iāve heard something like that from him. I wondered who could be. Then I remembered seeing him with a blonde lady. They would look at each other times and times. Like they were hiding a secret. Her name. If I remember was Olivia, excuse me, Miss Olivia. Thatās how he called her. It seemed like they just came from a book, a fairytale.Ā
It happened fast, probably way too fast. We were driving to Miss Oliviaās house. HisĀ FordĀ was very comfortable, the first time I ever travelled in a car like that. We finally stoped in front of a big house. The door was weirdly open. He entered first. Then I followed him curious about the door. I almost fainted. Iāve never seen such horrible thing. In the middle of the room there was a body. An old man with waiter clothes. He was there laying with his body in X form. There was a lake of blood around his head. Someone shotted him on his head. Mr. Tveit approached. The man had a letter on his hand. He picked it and started reading it out loud. āYou tought you could escape safe uh? You tought nothing could happen to her? Well now we have her in our hands. If you want her, please bring the money. If you donāt have the money you may expect the worst. Weāll be waiting for you at the same place at 3am. With love. You know who we are.āĀ
Mr. Tveit was on his knees with his hands on his head. It was the first time I was seeing him in such situation. He had his eyes closed. He looked at me. But I couldnāt talk. Not in that moment. He standed on his feet and started by taking that body away from the house. He finally got back to the house. Mr. Tveit entered in his car. I entered with him. āIām sorry messieur.ā I said. āItās okay.ā His voice sounded cold. āYou can count on me for anything, just say.ā He smiled. āI know what youāre talking about. I wont allow it.ā He said cold as always. āBut you canāt go alone!ā i almost screamed then I covered my mouth with my hand. āSo the plane is: I go talk witht hem and you stay aware.ā Then I finally arrived at home and he didnāt say nothing more.Ā
It was sunday when I went to a party and I saw him again. He was magnific. So glamorous and charming. Mr. Tveit was kind for everyone. But his eyes were cold as ice. I felt how he was missing Olivia. How he wanted to be near her. There was a forced smile on his face. He didnāt talk with me that night. I didnāt care. He was great at my eyes. I would stay satisfied only by looking at him. I would always think:Ā One day Iāll tell my kids and grandkids how great and magnific he was.Ā TveitĀ was just like that. I never heard about his family. I was the closest friend he ever had. Lights and fireworks. That was a great night. Probably not for him but for the other people was.
It was already wednesday. A cloudy wednesday. A dark and terrible wednesday. I had a bad feeling about that day. But thereās no way to get back. I was already near him driving to the mysterious place. Silence was the king of thatĀ Ford. We stoped in a desert. I stayed in the car with some binoculars watching everything from far while Mr. Tveit got out with a bag. There were 7 men dressed all in black, they all had guns. I saw Mr. Tveit giving the bag. Then the men stoped looking at him. The athmosphere was tense. One of the men was grabbing Olivia by her arm. She tried to move but the man wouldnāt let her. I saw one of them picking a gun then aiming to Mr. Tveitās body. I ran out of the car previewing what was going to happen.
Bang bang bang!Ā My heart stoped. Then I heard the cops car they were finally coming.Ā Too late.Ā It happened too fast. The cops arrested those men in black. My eyes moved to Tveit who was already on the floor. Olivia was near him stroking his cheeck, crying. They were talking. āDonāt go.ā She said crying. āOliviaā¦ā His next words stayed in my mind forever. āI lived my life the best I could. I couldnāt wish for more. Itās time for me to go. But donāt worry my dear, Iāll always love you Mrs. Tveit.ā He barely couldnāt breath. āAnd itās not a goodbye, itās more like a see you around.Ā
The cops closed his eyes. I holded Olivia. She was screaming. Next days were dark. It seemed New York was dead. The world was never the same for me since then. He was like the star that lighted up the city with his parties and events.Ā
After Tveitās dead I discovered Olivia was pregnant with a girl. She gave birth to that child but she couldnāt handle more. She entered in depression and she died of disease. She wanted me to stay with the kid because I was Tveitās closest friend. Since then Iāve been taking care of the girl. She has already 18 years hold and she always tought I was her only family. She really looks alike her mother, but I guess she has her fatherās eyes and behave. Some months ago I discovered who Mr. Tveit really was. His name was Aaron, Aaron Tveit. He worked at the marine and then he started working as a secret agent on a secret police. Those men in black were a group that the police was changing for ages.Ā
And this was the story of the greatest man Iāve ever met. I bet Tveit will always be on everyoneās heart and minds. Magnific and charming. He was brilliant. There was no man such as him.Ā
