Introduction:

Howdy, dear reader! I'm your host, Glagger, and today I'm here to present you the master post containing all installments of my medal analysis series for Password the Visual Novel.

This is a long running passion project that has been in the works since after path P dropped to the public in full. The prime (ha) goal of it, is to discuss and analyze in-depth the astrological theme used in Password.

Each of its parts contains a full analysis dedicated to each medal and its associated character, where I attempt to show how the astrological meanings and connections enrich the writing of the game. There's also a few intermissions where I discuss interesting parallels between certain medals and their characters.

Despite starting out solely as my own, this idea became a shared project between me and Xernok down the line. Before delving into the main content, in order to help those with zero knowledge of astrology not to feel lost or confused, we'd like to provide you with a simple reference sheet that was created to aid the reader in understanding the basic concepts of this pseudo science as they read:

With these concepts in mind, let's delve into Password's zodiac wheel! (For those who never used Tumblr, the underlined sentences are hyperlinks, just tap or click on them).

We hope that this was as much of a fun read to you as it was to us to write and edit it. And that by the end of it, you feel like you learned something new about this wonderful cast and story.

I love Password, and want to share as much of that love as I can through my writing with anyone who's willing to listen. I hope that you were able to feel that love through this project, and that it has multiplied whatever fondness you had for the game tenfold.

You already know the drill. I'll be discussing how today's medal is sub-textually connected to the scene it's found in game and characters involved in it. SPOILERS FOR THE NOVEL AHEAD, so please, if you haven't read the novel yet and don't want to be spoiled, leave for now.

Taurus, the medal of Guilt, Promises and Renewed vows:

The second medal found in the game is Taurus. Found underneath a giant pumpkin in the greenhouse by Dave.

In Dean and Sal's routes, Dave trips on the medal after a conversation about how he saved them last night with the vault, what exactly happened and what he saw in it.

In Orlando, Hoss and Roswell's routes, Dave trips on it after a conversation with Tyson about how the wolf's been trying to improve and make friends for the hyena's sake. And says he'll start with Hoss since he's new and asks for advice.

Finally, in Tyson's route, Dave trips on it after an intense conversation about how Tyson needs to speak with him about a serious topic. Dave expresses fear over his behavior and they attempt to hug.

This scene has 4 different variants. Making it the only medal in game with so much variety added to its scene. These multiple variations, its location, and the topics discussed with each character are all fitting with the myths behind the Taurus constellation.

In astrology, Taurus is categorized as the fixed negative earth sign of the zodiac.

Taurus is said to have an unbreakble loyal nature. It's main pursuits are stability, reliability and consistency in everything. They are dedicated and stubborn. Sometimes to the point they refused to let go of unhealtly situations simply because they don't want to accept losing the stability they built.

The planetary ruler of Taurus is Venus. Who represents beauty, love, money, and pleasure.

This influence is said to be responsible for them being the most sensual sign of the zodiac. Not just in the sense of lust or sex, but about any type of luxury. Comfort, pleasure and the security provided by material things are necessities for Taurus. And they love being pampered physically as a result. It's also the reason why this particular sign is so lucky in both love and finances.

In its ancient myths, Taurus is always associated with fertility. Both sexual and fertility of the land. It's tied to sacrifice, the renewal of spring, and warfare. And has many divine and mythological beings associated with it. Every mythology gives Taurus these same concepts.

In astrology, people born under this sign are said to be ambitious, focused, and resilient.

They are very patient and stubborn in both professional and romantic pursuits. And are very loyal and reliable partners and workers. They're devoted and trustworthy, and often reassure their friends and lovers of their commitment to them in whatever way is more effective at the time. They are very much "material girl" types who love luxury, pleasure and material comforts. And are willing to work very hard to support their material habits. They are also easy angered by any threat their stability, security and consistency. And are very cautious with their decisions to ensure they can keep their comforts.

The associations with fertility, sacrifice and renewal of bonds and vows are pretty clear. The medal is hidden in the greenhouse, underneath a giant crop that is going to be sacrificed by the cast so they can spend time together and bond. There's also a relation with the aspect of putting effort to get material rewards to enjoy.

In their variations, Sal and Dean discuss how Dave's caution saved them. They also briefly touch upon the main traumas of their arcs in order to reassure Dave. Exposing guilt over sins that their hearts still can't overcome. Guilt and sins are common attachments to the material world that block people from achieving spiritual and mental happiness in many myths. They also talk about how impractical their attempted murders are. And Sal even offers a better alternative for it, making a connection to the warfare aspects since they are stating how the weapons being used against them are inefficient. Dean also makes a joke about how he deserves a medal for being horny like the bull, making another association to sexual love. Also, Dean's stubborn desire to court Dave romantically is pretty visible in the conversation. Their loyalty, reliability and patience towards Dave despite their doubts, are very taurian traits as well.

In Tyson's neutral conversation we see how his resistance to change and inflexibility are making his journey of self-improvement difficult. He also expresses the need for help while being cautious and practical about how to get there. He acknowledges his past sins make his misson difficult, and decides he'll only give it one shot and back down if his advances are ill received.

Then, in his route exclusive talk, Dave and him have a tense exchange about how they need to have a serious conversation later. This is set in motion thanks to the sin of sexual nature he almost committed against Dave in the previous night. The conversation will reveal he's planning to leave Dave behind and is not sure if he'll ever come back, a cautious move he does out of fear and with the goal to better understand his own desires without causing further problems to Dave.

The way these variations don't really affect the ending results of the scene, seems to be associated with how all myths give Taurus the same meanings. The universal presence of either romantic and/or sexual undertones, security and comfort provided by a material source, and of finding a valuable item by pure luck, is also very on theme for Taurus and it's ruler.

Finally, Craig mentions in the cosmic medal analysis that Flora hid the medal under the pumpkin specifically so that It would be surrounded by its element. Where it would patiently stay undisturbed until found. Making another association with the fixed modality of the medal.

As you're aware by now, his post has SPOILERS FOR THE NOVEL. So please, if you haven't read the novel yet, and don't want to be spoiled, leave for now.

Leo, the medal of Expectations, Determination and Futility: 

Leo is found on day 22 of all routes inside a book in the hidden study. Thanatos guides Dave there as a reward, after he proves he's starting to remember past iterations on his own.

The medal is inside a book with a re-interpretation of "the three little pigs", in a hollow space alongside a childhood picture of the Hammond siblings Flora left there. In path A, Dave flips the picture and finds a message in the back written by Flora, telling Oswin to remember what's most important.

Afterwards, Thanatos gives an abridged version of the tale in the book. It has a rabbit as the villain, and the first pig is killed by the rabbit with a piece of chocolate the pig accepts. The second pig turns into a rabbit after rejecting the chocolate offered to them, which, to the author, is the same as death. The third survives by escaping from the rabbit who accidentally cooks himself alive trying to burn down the house with the pig inside.

Once Thanatos is done, Dave says there's no lesson to learn other than to mistrust rabbits in the book, calling the author racist. Thanatos confirms, and says it's the kind of book Regis, Oswin's father, liked to keep and read to his children.

In Astrology, Leo is the positive fixed fire sign of the zodiac. It's an expressive, inflexible and assertive sign marked by its intense willpower, ambition and of course, determination. The most beloved quality of Leo is bravery, which is its main strength and gives Leo physical, mental, and emotional fortitude. The fearless optimism of Leo causes it to never accept failure, and every challenge they face as they mature only multiplies the content in their well of courage.

Much like the lion they are represented by, people born under Leo act like kings and queens full of grace, ego and pride. Leos embrace the concept of royalty by being natural leaders who are theatrical, passionate and full of life, taking the spotlight to celebrate themselves. Since Leos perceive themselves as celebrities, they always search for partners who are artistic and creative, making their friendships and romantic affairs dramatic and explosive.

Leo's planetary ruler is the sun, the representative of creativity, life, vitality and power. The sun never stops burning and glowing, so, much like their ruler, Leo is naturally loyal, stable and consistent, always putting their entire heart in their relationships. In romance, the sun's influence causes them to only love seeing their partners be sucessful until they feel threatened. No sun likes being eclipsed, and as such, jealousy is a very strong trait in Leo thanks to their strong pride and ego. The most important lesson for Leo's maturity is the understanding that the shine of success from other people doesn't diminsh their own.

In Leo's myths, the sign represents the foe Heracles fought against in his first labor. The sign is the Nemean Lion, a giant, sentient lion with an impenetrable pelt that kidnapped beautiful maidens to lure warriors into his cove so he could devour them.

Heracles was tasked with killing him by a king, and in his journey to Nemea, he stays at a man's house to rest before the hunt. The man offers to sacrifice an animal to bless him in his mission but Heracles asks him to wait 30 days after he leaves instead, so that if he dies, the sacrifice can be done in his name as a hero. If Heracles succeeds however, both of them would celebrate together, sacrificing an animal to Zeus instead.

In the battle against the lion, after understanding that his weapons are useless against its pelt, he uses his divine strength and breaks his back with his bare arms, killing it with a headlock when it can't fight anymore. He takes the lion's pelt for himself, and returns to the man's house to celebrate and sacrifice an animal to Zeus, who's so impressed with his son's triumph, he turns the lion into the Leo constellation to eternize Heracles' achievement in the heavens.

Leo is the medal associated with the Hammond family and their tale. Its traits represent the members of the family and their story together, and also how the tale ended. The Hammonds are filled with ambitious and prideful members, Regis and his wife being prime examples of it. This is visible in how they both adopted Flora simply because they were worried her intellect would overshadow their children's, bringing her mind to the family so it could challenge and compete with the intelligence of their sons internally. There's also the fact Regis, much like Zeus, is a demanding and egotistical father that constantly orders his children to accomplish his trials and expectations to earn both their place in his "divine" family, as well as his affection and respect.

The Hammond siblings are expressive, driven and assertive individuals. They lived active lives in pursuit of great goals, being full of willpower and determination. They tried carving their place in the family's history but were ultimately unsuccessful in both acheiving the expectations set for them and changing its dysfunctional nature. Trapped in inflexible ideals and expectations, they only met death, rejection and isolation, much like the three pigs in the book's story.

It's also interesting how Heracles' traits can be broken down and divided amongst the Hammond siblings. Reginald has the blind devotion and loyalty towards a father who only sees him for his accomplishments, learning, studying and doing anything Regis desires of him. Much like Heracles earned his full divinity through his talent and abilities, Florencia caught the attention of Regis and his wife and became a Hammond for the same reasons. Heracles being raised by non-divine foster parents who cared for him most of his life fits perfectly with Oswin, who was raised by Benson because his own parents where either too busy or focused on their other children instead.

Craig says that the medal was left there on purpose by Flora to be found by Roswell to clue him in on the truth about Oswin being his father, but as time passed, it became less and less likely to happen. Thanatos never finding out the truth also prevented things from playing out differently. This fits Leo because, despite Flora's active efforts to assert her own desire of bringing her family together over Oswin's desire to remain distant, Roswell remained ignorant, and the situation stayed inflexibly the same.

“W-well aside from a certain bear-mmmmmmmph~” A hand closed around Flora’s mouth to silence her words and the moan that came after. A dark skinned woman, with purple highlights in her hair was endlessly teasing Flora’s clit, but stopping just short of letting her cum.

"Well... I did give her a ... I guess you'd call it an 'I'm sorry' gift..." Flora looked at the floor, where a second Android 18 was tied up and glaring daggers at her.

Weapon description: Duel guns that can transform into blades and when in gun form, it can shoot dust bullets. It can also shoot two different kinds of dust bullets.

Semblance: Feral

Background: Sable grew up in the forests of Anima after being orphaned at a young age. She survived by taking odd jobs in the surrounding villages. When she was 15, she met her friend Alani Barone after she pickpocketed her. They butted heads but eventually, they grew to respect for each other. They learned to forge their own weapons. When they were 17, they decided to put their skills to the test and joined Haven Academy. Sable was named the Leader with Alani as her partner and became close friends with Flora Sinclair and Roderick Hale.

Sable

Blue Moon- Two high powered guns that can transform into blades. She uses Dust bullets to make her attacks stronger.

Feral- She draws on her inner Grimm to make herself stronger and faster. Her blue Aura covers her making her an Aura Werewolf. The more she uses it, the more she loses her sanity.

Alani

Black Death- Two kusarigama that are pure black. She can throw them up to 20 feet and she can spin one in front of her to block projectiles.

Reaper’s Call- Her Aura turns black and she is shrouded in a veil, making her look like the Grim Reaper. She gets stronger and faster. She can also make her enemies feel dread. If she uses it for too long, it will call Grimm.

Flora

Shadow Slicer- She carries a briefcase with her family’s emblem on it. She presses a button and blades pop out to make it a giant shiriken. She throws it and she can control it with her Aura.

Aura Barrier- When attacked by an enemy, she puts up a barrier generated from her Aura. When her enemy is close, she cam self destruct it to cause massive damage to her opponent. It depletes her Aura quickly so she only uses it in emergencies.

Roderick

Snake Fang- Dual Jian swords that are infused with fire and ice dust..
