The New Setup! 21Rope Andreas Pro Flex 140
Β I've been riding the Rope Andreas Pro Flex 140 for a month or two now and thought I'd get a few words down for anyone that is interested. I've also recently taken delivery of the 2014 Ronix Franks and they are also worth a mention!
The board:Β The Andreas Flex board is the mid size flex board in the Rope line up for 2013 at 140x43 with a fairly prominent 6.6 cm continuous rocker line. I've always loved pure continuous rocker boards and this is no exception. It makes the board incredibly smooth to ride, beautiful to carve, progressive on edge and in my view, just makes it feel right! It is a predominantly wood core with ABS side walls with medium low stiffness (hence flex board!) and features rope signature grind base which is like no other.Β The ABS sidewall construction of this board is fairly new in the wakeboarding industry and, in my view, is the future! The main advantage is pure durability as it doesn't ding and open up like a traditional compression moulded boards but it also completely changes the riding characteristics. I believe it is the squared off tip and tail and incredibly thin rails which result in this board being insanely locked in on edge (even though I've only ridden it finless) but playful and skatey when upright and over the board. Its absolutely perfect in my view, grip when you need it loading up for air tricks and a bit of forgiveness on slightly off landings/pulling out of blind off kickers/obstacles. I was worried when I first got the Andreas Pro Flex that the softer flex pattern would result in reduced pop for air tricks. I couldn't have been more wrong. The best word to describe this board is lively! The locked in feel on edge of this board makes air trick take offs feel all the more intuitive. It grips so hard but releases so clean and the combined softer flex and big rocker line takes the landings with ease.
These boards were designed with the cable in mind and it is an absolute dream on obstacles. The rope slider base on all their boards is insane. It has no resistance on obstacles whatsoever and just doesn't catch up. It took me a good few days to even get used to it having come off older slider base boards that just didn't compare. You can actually concentrate on the obstacle/press/spin instead of worrying about the resistance between board/plastic. This board will press!!! I've tried other brands of boards with even less stiffness that other riders have raved about but I've found them too soft and they give no feedback when on the obstacle at all. The adreas flex is the perfect flex pattern for me. Pressy and reactive. An area of riding that I did not expect this board to improve is the kicker hits! Because of the flex pattern, the board absorbs the energy as you hit the kicker, making the whole upramp feel smooth and throws you off the top! Especially noticeable on Toeside hits! Overall, this is a super lively board that is absolutely perfect on the cable. If you want to demo, get in touch or contact Brett at Supreme720! Boots The 2014 Ronix franks are not dissimilar to the 2013 Franks. In fact I was hard pushed to find much of a difference other than colour! Having said that, the 2013 Franks were the best boots I'd ever ridden and my only complaint would be the laces wearing with time and coming loose when you ride. This has been fixed on the 2014 models as the laces are thicker and the tensioners are now much tighter. I can really see them lasting. The 2014 boots are once again, an absolute dream! They are insanely comfortable (even without heat moulding which I've never seen as necessary!) and have such good hold down even without cranking them super tight. In my view, a good boot is one that you don't notice when riding. The less you have a niggle in the back of your mind that your feet are uncomfy/not secure, the more you're concentrating on your riding and the better it will be. The 2014 franks fit that perfectly. They're easy to use, comfy and serve their purpose perfectly. They have good range of movement for presses on the obstacles and take the big air trick landings well. Try a pair and you won't look back! Supported by: http://www.flexifoil.com/uk/ www.supreme720.com www.21rope.com Thanks to: Brett Whitelock http://www.watersportsworld.co.uk/
