Rain poured down as Xion quickly made her way to the apartment building, bag held over her head. It took a few freezing minutes, but she did eventually manage to make the trek with only a few near slips along the way. She hurriedly shuffled through her pockets for her keys as she made her way carefully to the correct building.
It was a garbage week to be completely honest. Her boss decided that working double shifts for the past month wasn’t enough. That she should do the 8pm - 3am shift instead. And of course even after she mentioned her class hours being early in the morning, making a night shift the absolute worst possible shift to have, her boss insisted and all but gave her an ultimatum. Either quit or take the schedule change without further complaint.
Honestly, she wasn’t sure which would screw her over further. Always one to try to keep the peace however, she agreed begrudgingly. Today had been her first shift on the new schedule and it was just as she’d imagined it’d be. Not only was it exhausting to be up so late so suddenly, but it was also just so frustrating. You know who calls a call center at midnight? Assholes.
It didn’t matter though. Because she was almost home. She could change, relax, take a shower, maybe write a little. She took a deep breath as she formed the list, feeling tension ease slightly from her muscles.
She pushed the keys into her door with a frustrated huff, turning maybe a little too forcefully.
A little too forceful indeed, as with a resounding ‘snap’ the metal broke in her hand, part of it still twisted into the lock.
She stared.
And stared some more.
She pulled out her phone to check the time.
3:57am.
She stared back at the key.
Whether it was come from her or the clouded sky and freezing air, her face was wet and she was shaking.
She wasn’t sure what to do. She couldn’t call the apartment people. Their ‘office’ didn’t open until 9am. She could maybe call Axel? But no, he was on vacation. Something about ‘an old friend’ dropping into town and whisking him away. Roxas? Nono, she couldn’t call him either. He said something about going to a convention this week. Did she really have no other friends?
She pulled out her phone, shielding it from the rain with her body.

Axel’s Ex (why did she ever still have that number?)
The list went on, as did her anxiety. She couldn’t just stay out here! And it’s not like she had a car to sleep in. And God she was so tired. The longer she stood, the more her limbs felt heavy and shoulders seem to pull her further and further into the ground. Maybe she could just crash at the call center until the morning? Or hell, even until her next shift. It’d suck, but at least it was an option.
Running a shivering hand through her soaked and tangled hair, Xion uslessly rubbed at her eyes, preparing for the lengthy walk back to the bus stop. Hopefully they were running still. If not… well. She’d figure it out if it comes to that, she supposed.
