Some pieces from yesterday out of the annealer. This is soft glass (mainly 104 COE soda lime glass) on unglazed, underglazed, and glazed (low fire commercial glazes) beads. . One of the lessons from analyzing yesterday’s results is that flame atmosphere has a huge effect on both the ceramic surface and the glass that gets added. It appears to me that soft glass is more susceptible to reduction in the flame than borosilicate, as are the commercial glazes because they are designed to be fired in an electric firing, which is typically neutral to oxidizing. . Today, I’m working on trying on trying to work in an oxidizing flame to see how different the results are. . #ceramics #glass #flameworking #flameworkbeads #glazechemistry #penlandwinterresidency #PenlandWinter2022 https://www.instagram.com/p/CYo0_mHrEoN/?utm_medium=tumblr
