A ship I have with my character
Eliwood/Ephraim lordtp --
no actually I do think Ephraim/Lyon is (pretty obviously) my strongest ship for it, but I don't think I could ever see it as a healthy romance. They both have these really unrealistic and twisted ideas of each other, and given everything that's happened between them, it's a really messed up relationship. My idea of Ephraim is that he's essentially unwilling to acknowledge that Lyon's done terrible things. He paints himself into this delusional world where Lyon was a helpless innocent who was forced into things by the demon king, and as a result sees his own inability to save him as an enormous personal failure, rather than an inevitable result of what Lyon set into motion.
Out of canon wife options, I prefer L'Arachel for him, just because I think Tana would take a lack of genuine love a lot harder. (He's nonromantic with both of them IMO.) And I also like Ephraim with both Kyle and Forde, whoops, though I'm not sure I see it as legit romance in the typical sense. Either way Ephraim's affections are so messed up that I don't think people should want to get involved with him.
Why I chose my character
Ephraim's my favorite lord (Eliwood's an incredibly close second), and I guess I just wasn't super happy with a lot of portrayals I saw of him. I wanted to explore him more post-game, when his flaws and failings have finally caught up to him just in time for him to have to take the throne. I feel like he's a much deeper and more interesting character than he gets credit, so I wanted to play him to bring that across.
He's also probably the most fun for me to interact with new people with. He's got his personal connections, but out of all the characters I play in FE, Ephraim's the most outgoing and most likely to forge new bonds. It's really fun to play as a main character with all this weight on him, meeting people with similar stories to him or people he's met in the past. With more reserved characters like Percival and Alvis, it's harder to really make interesting bonds within the group, I think.

It pains me that I was only able to learn from you for such a brief time. Despite everything you’ve told me, you remained so resilient. Truth be told, I envied your resolve. Renais could have used a king as great as Pherae’s new marquess.
I ask you, for my sake, to never lose that quality. Life as a ruler will try to tear you down, but you must not let it. You deserve happiness, and while I will never see your land’s future, I hope history remembers you as I do now.
I’m sorry I never had a chance to know you better, but it’s a selfish thought. Friendship with me doesn’t appear to end well. I am glad you never suffered for it.

I guess I’m still really insecure in my characterization? He’s a really difficult character to write and I worry sometimes I veer too far from canon in an effort to not be like HERF LANCES YEY or whatever, you know?
