Phew! I'm not the only one who was disappointed then. I mean, It was a good movie, But I think they could've made it SO much better. I can't believe they left Madge, Octavia, Flavius and Venia out. They were quite a big part of the movie in my eyes. I agree with you, so many key moments and phrases were just cut out. My list is endless, even small things like the woods not being pine urked me, cornucopia not being a horn, cat not being ginger. one of the few things I was happy with was Haymitch.
Yeah, I honestly went in and was like "I will not be disturbed by small changes! I will not!" So I was not as bothered by Madge (this is coming from someone who has Madge as a main character in her fic), the prep team, but THE CAT. THEY COULDN'T GET A FUCKING YELLOW CAT?
I honestly think they should have cut more things from the movie to make room for other things. But I bet the fangirls would revolt at my suggestions....(they are pretty harsh)
I also just hated the directing and thought Josh and Jenn had horrible chemistry. I might have been one of the only ones who cheered when Gary Ross was sent away and am hopeful about a new director.

I was one of the rare people who did NOT like The Hunger Games movie and it was for a number of reasons and each time I rewatch it, a few more go down on the list. But I will be very general here and anyone who is curious can ask me in more detail if they are interested.
The movie was not for non-book readers and I had a lot of problems viewing it with my friends who hadn't read them. I thought they did not very well establish Panem and its government and why the Games existed and what not. All of my friends had a million questions. I also thought that they didn't spend enough time on important characterization. Rue and Peeta were totally ripped off. I have mentioned here before that the things that make Peeta great were almost completely taken out. His bravery and strength (maybe actually looking like he was dying, losing his leg), and humor (you can kiss me whenever you like) were removed to the point that people like Gale more...even though he only has 5 seconds in the movie. I thought they removed a lot of key concepts of Rue that would have been important "I never had a whole leg to myself before" "My favorite thing in the world is music" - (which if included probably would have actually made me cry at her death) and "I have four little siblings." All of these characters were ripped off so we could get shaky cam shots of the Capital people and fucking CATO getting a redeemable ending? ANGRY SIGH
I just did not like it. Too much time spent pre-arena and not enough on the actual establishing moments for the next books.
