Hey everybody! It’s Flame Challenge Day again. This year’s question was, “What is energy?” Alan will be talking with the kids and the scientists will be giving their answers to this question starting at Noon (ET). You can watch it live on the Stony Brook Facebook page.

What Is Energy? Alan Alda—and a Bunch of Kids—Want to Know

The flame challenge is a unique competition where scientists explain scientific concepts in a way that even a child can understand. Previous competitions have explained flames, time, color, and sleep. This year’s question, though, is one that’s near and dear to my heart: “What is Sound?” The deadline for submitting an answer to the flame challenge question (either a 300 word explanation or a five-minute video) is January 19th 2016. So, for all of you scientists out there, this is your chance to share acoustics with a whole new generation of budding scientists! (Video credit Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science™)

Hey guys so I found out that Alan will be on this program tomorrow, “Science Friday” it’s called, and this is supposedly a link where you can listen when it happens. He’s going to be on there with the winners of the Flame Challenge. It’s going to happen tomorrow, June 5th at 2:00 pm. And while nowhere I’ve seen has been explicit about it, I feel very certain that it’s going to be 2:00 pm Eastern time. So tune in if you can!
