Can anyone id this tree for me? It's growing in a fairly small, moderately dense mixed wood (mostly pitch pines, maples, and oaks, smattering of several other deciduous species), several hundred yards from a large pond. Trees were generally upright; trunks were slightly crooked but not generally forked. Skinny trees (maybe 8” diameter) were probably thirty or forty feet tall with most of the branches and foliage concentrated at the top (as generally expected in the woods). Simple, alternately attached, lanceolate leaves, dark green above, very pale whitish green below. Serrate margin, veins are maybe arcuate? Bark is gray and flakey. #unknowtree #treeid #alternateattachment #simpleleaves #lanceolate #serrate #flakeybark #graybark #tree #leaf #leaves #albanypinebush @apbpc (at Six Mile Waterworks)
