Went to a writing festival today, and one of my classmates had been one of the winners in a writing contest and had to write her poems out loud on a stage. And Iām happy for her - but inner Ria is always a bit bitter because, man, I also want to be good at writing. But I never try to show any of my original writing, so Iām not even in the race. Urgh. When people ask me if I write, I canāt even say yes,Ā ācause I know fanfiction is just frowned upon. Ria is a writer. But [insert my real name here] canāt show anything sheās writtenĀ ācause she doesnāt have the courage.
Oh well, I did actually write something original today. Some publisher shoved an empty page in my face, and said that Iād get a book for free if I wrote a poem right here, right now.
So here, translated from Danish and from memory so it might not be totally correct, is the super quick poem I wrote down in front of his judgemental glare. Like, what do you expect from a person being given 2 seconds to come up with something? But hey. I wrote something original and actually signed with my real name.
"I am a word
given to me by my parents
a pattern of letters
shaped in the mouth and creates an I.
When I grew
I learned more letters
and patternsĀ
and I sent them into the air
so that others could connect them."
