Got out and used the Jian Trainer and Destroyer Sheild by #purpleheartarmoury (An atypical combination, I know) with @bryangunnbooks ... Regardless, I was really pleased with the #jiansword overall. My shoulder and wrist strength need some development. (As well as my form!) The trainer was a bit heavier than the Cold Steel version. Because of the heft, I wasn't going to get away with sloppy or flailing cuts. Ultimately, a plus! ... But the balance was very nice. If I clicked into good techniques and smooth flow, the sense of heaviness melted away. ... Having more rigidity was REALLY nice. Defensive capability skyrocketed. And, there was still a little bit of flex to the trainer. As my strength and skill increase I imagine I could make better use of that flexibility. ... I had requested that PHA flip the guard so that I could catch my opponents sword, instead of deflecting it. I'm really happy they accommodated. Didn't catch it in this video but it certainly proved handy and added a great dynamic to my technique. ...
