Way back in 2007, I did a drawing request for my Uncle, who asked me to draw his new motorcycle! I obliged, and he loved it so much that he framed the result and put it in his office! Unfortunately, we recently found out from his daughter that he's very sick and has been put into hospice. We don't know how much time he has; it could be days, weeks, months. I regret not talking to him more the past fifteen years. I'm trying to make up for it now, calling him every few days, but it's a sad situation all around. He's such a good soul, and is one of the last people to deserve this to happen to him.
To cheer him up, I sent him some art of his farmhouse that I put in Little Runt! (Page 35, and Page 37) That's right, Nes's childhood home is my Uncle's house. I visited every summer as a kid, and have fond memories of it. :) I was able to show him the other day, and he really loved it. His reaction was "aaaaaawwwwww!!!" Times three. <3
But I wanted to do another drawing for him; something specifically for him. I thought drawing his motorcycle again, fifteen years later, would work best, but I also asked him what his favorite animal was. His answer: grizzly bears! So I made an alternate version with a grizzly bear riding it. I figured he'd get a kick out of it, and it allowed me to combine my two different artistic strengths. =P
I wish there was more I could do for him. The last week for me has been about coming to terms that there isn't much I can do. Trying to do too much could even become overbearing and annoying. All I can really do is take things day-by-day and let fate decide what happens from here.
