Nicholas Donlen Is Avant Garde Royalty
Opening Donlens show is model Marie Fall who strutted in an all white ensemble with a white wig headpiece. A very gothic collection I think. The blacks and the reds, the feathers and the out-of-this world styling of accessories and of course his soft rock music. I’ve seen head pieces and chokers but I must admit, this is my first time seeing accessories all around the models face, covering the eyes and even in the mouth. Ricardo Tissci went went with a similar haute couture look for the Givenchy Spring/Summer fashion shown in Paris last season by clipping diamond studs on models faces so perhaps Donlen drew inspiration from that? That’s the thing I love about avant garde - you don’t need consistency. In this case the only consistent trend was the colors black and white and the accessories. Otherwise a well thought out collection. The peacock finale was a favorite. I can’t imagine the time spent creating it. A round of applause for Donlen the atelier.
