“you had me sneak you out of the castle for a drink?” theo grumbled, following closely behind the mischievous prince. theophile, though only his mother dared call him that anymore, had always been near to the other male - even when he had been nothing but a stable boy. presenting as an alpha had garnered particular attention within the castle halls, though mostly from chatty servants, and he’d quickly been trained as a guard. neither of his parents had been alphas (though he hadn’t known his father) and his omega mother had been more than thrilled at her excellent ability to produce such a strong offspring. and yet, here he was, risking his livelihood so the prince could act like a commoner for an evening.
“you do realize the spirits in the castle are much better than they serve here,” he muttered into beau’s ear, glaring at those who glanced in their direction.
Beau rolled his eyes at Theo’s worrying, grinning at the guard out of fondness. He was a grouch, but they’d been close forever, so close in fact that he was the only Alpha trusted to be in his guard duty. The rest were all Betas, and uninterested in the dynamic between the Alphas and Omegas in the palace. His status meant he was the best to take out and about, as other Alphas often attacked unattended Omegas and claimed them for themselves.
At Theo’s second question, Beau laughed. ❝Yes, I know that. I come down here for the atmosphere.❞ he chuckled. It was a dusty old tavern, but he loved it - there were real people down here, not people paid to kiss his ass and pretend he was God’s gift. ❝You know they’re planning to wed me off soon, don’t you? I deserve at least one night of fun.❞
