Mod Dem Edition!

To make managing this blog a bit easier I decided to compile all the criticisms and revisions we’ve done separately from this blog. First up is Mod Dem because she started the blog. I’ll try to keep some order, but I’m not arranging them by when they where posted.

Heey I read thru masterposts and remembered smth that doesnt make sense: how is rose goddamn powerful in healing and biogenesia when it's canon her kind is of soldiers?? Then I thought "well maybe after the war she discovered new powers like peridot now with metal" but then I thought: this is her homeplanet. What if every gems were more powerful in the context they were made at bc more powers they dont know are related to it? It sounds like a p cool idea

That does sound really cool. It’s an interesting concept that gems powers might be effected by where they were made. Would that mean Amethyst might also have some special earth based powers that she doesn’t know about?

That could also mean that maybe only the new generation of Peridots have metal because they could’ve been made in a different place than generation one peridots.

in and of itself, still a pretty good episode. i loved the gloopy bobbing steven does in the car with greg and how much you can see steven loves and idolizes his dad. if im being honest, this is when things start getting janky, since the red eye was supposed to be investigating for gems despite almost crashing into beach city, majoras mask style, and how it messes up the storyline of greg meeting rose slightly. 

fixing the red eye issue: theres a number of ways to go about this.

the red eye could almost crash into the beach, and the gems shoot the laser, only for it to miss. it seems like all is hopeless and everyones gonna die until the red eye just. stops. it scans the beach, beeps five times (for each gem), and disappears like the ruby ship in “hit the diamond”. the problem with this ending is that its a little hollow and very reminiscent of cheeseburger backpack where steven messes up (but it doesnt matter because who cares everything is fine~), but it helps to create a feeling of vague uneasiness that foreshadows the idea of a bigger threat looming in the shadows. might be too early to introduce that, since its only the second episode.

everything goes exactly the same as the original, but at some other point another roaming eye does what the first one was supposed to do: scan for active (un-corrupted) gems. maybe it happens randomly during another episode and goes mostly unacknowledged by the gems, or steven is the only one who notices and brushes it off.

everything is exactly the same, except peridot says “so thats why my red eye never reported back!” in marble madness instead of “but the red eye never reported any gems on this planet!”

There’s a plot hole when it comes to Vidalia, Sour Cream, and Onion and their relationship to Greg and Steven.

So on the night Greg met Rose, Vidalia met Marty, and from that point on it seems that Greg and Vidalia have been friends. At some point over the course of this friendship, Vidalia also became friends with Amethyst. Then Sour Cream was born. 

Greg babysat Sour Cream at least once and remained close enough to Vidalia that she let him stay in her house while she was away and he still plays cards with her in the present day. It’s also been stated that Greg was the one raising Steven until recently, so Steven should know Vidalia. He should know Vidalia, Sour Cream, Onion, and Yellowtail.

He does know Onion at the beginning of the show, but in Lars and the Cool Kids it seems to be his first time interacting with Sour Cream. In Onion Friend he doesn’t seem familiar with Vidalia. It doesn’t make any sense for Steven not to know them. If anything they should be family friends.

honestly, this was probably the best start to the series! it showed a lot of potential and room for growth while having its own charm. the idea of steven learning something new about himself and each of the crystal gems teaching him about being a gem makes for a good introduction to all the characters.
