Can we talk about Vishby for a second?
You know, the water sprite from Atlantis who Mulch always called Fishby?
Yeah, that guy. He doesn't have many scenes in the book, but does serve a pretty important part in the Atlantis Complex, and honestly I love his character.
This guy obviously isn't the best LEP officer. He wheezes if he can't get enough air, isn't the brightest person in the room, and isn't all that strong. You can tell that he doesn't like what he's doing, and is laughed at because of his name a lot(in the Opal Deception he's obviously been called 'Fishby' a lot and is used to it by now).
In Atlantis Complex, he is branded by Turnball and forced to do his bidding against his will. He can't control what he's doing, he's at Turnball's control. And then what happens? He dies. He was betrayed by Turnball, who he'd started to believe was a friend, and died because of it.
This is guy who latches onto the first person who gives him some kind of confidence boost, who agrees with him and makes him feel good about himself. I bet that Vishby was bullied a lot when he was younger because of his name and how he wasn't super smart or strong. It probably didn't get better in the LEP. So he latched onto Turnball because Turnball made him feel good about himself and he trusted him.
Isn't it sad that the one person Vishby seemed to trust was a criminal who betrayed him? Vishby isn't shown as having many friends. He shown as a loner who no one really pays attention to because he's not very high up in the LEP and doesn't have any special skills. This is the one person who isn't super amazing, who's just a regular fairy. Honestly, he's one of the most relatable characters in the books because he's not super strong or smart like the majority of the characters.
He's just a guy with no exceptional things about him who wants to be praised and to feel good about himself, and in the end that's what gets him killed.
