Aboriginal art is no different from any other form of art in its fundamental purpose. Like art traditions throughout the world, it expresses culture, identity, beliefs, history, and human experience.

What makes Aboriginal art distinctive is not its intent, but the cultures, spiritual beliefs, histories, and connections to Country that it reflects. Just as European, Asian, African, and Indigenous American art emerged from different societies and traditions, Aboriginal art emerged from the unique experiences and knowledge systems of Australia's First Peoples.
