Our pre-season started in September. That’s when varsity had their first scrimmage against our rival school Central. I was terrified by the thought of playing those girls.  They were giants compared to everyone on the varsity team including me. After several weeks of hard intense practice, Coach M finally thought I was ready to wear a varsity jersey. I thought otherwise but took the jersey anyways. The game was nerve-wracking. We were down 2-0 and I was content with bench warming that day. Until Coach Meanie called my name to ask if I wanted to enter the game after watching everyone nearly faint from exhaustion, I cowardly said no. So my best friend Vanessa substituted in, she was new too but had more courage and confidence than me. From that moment I knew I had to stop being a little girl and actually try in the games I practice three hours five days a week for.
