the village is gone.

there is no smoke in the air. no more screams. they’d done their best to evacuate as many as they could, their voice clear & piercing through the din of warfare to the village elders: run to safety. trust me. trust me. 

haku is a stranger to these lands, but the elders had stared at them a long moment before ushering the women & children where haku commanded: a small outcropping of caves to the west.

with the village empty, haku turned & faced the march of fire nation soldier with black frost spreading across their palms, a rare outpouring of anger coloring their element as they sprang forward into the fray, a human hurricane possessed by bone-chilling fury.

suffice to say the enemy was woefully unprepared.

but haku had misjudged the time & had not accounted for the villagers’ reactions when they returned. the elders took one look at the black ice coating the ground & backed away in terror. someone started a fire with cleansing herbs. it did not take long for the flames to spread from house to house, burning the curse of haku’s spirit from this place. haku forgives the villagers. these people have been plagued by monsters in human skin for too long. haku is just another beast to run from.

the herb smoke stings their eyes & burns their lungs. haku does not move, not even at the soft sound of footsteps.

haku stares quietly for a moment at the curling smoke & the discarded fire nation helm resting against their foot.

the title is earned; not wasted on the young man before me. yes, he is young and his thousands of years should weigh heavily on his shoulders, yet he wears the same skin. i cannot say the same. i am old. though i, too, am young, i am old.

THERE  WAS  A  NEW  PHENOMENON ;   far  past  the  idea  of  santa  or  the  tooth  fairy.          a  human  that  had  powers -------  NO  DEATH  INVOLVED  !         it  seemed  the  moon  &  the  earth  teamed  up  ---------  the  elements  were  working  with  the  spirit  realm  &  the  humans  now.         ever  since  waking  up  with  these  powers  of  his  ,  he  loved  the  spirit  realm  ;  after  all  ,  it  was  only  the  supernatural  that  could  see  him.        so  ,  of  course  he’s  sought  out  this  AVATAR.        could  they  see  him  ?         did  it  work  that  way  ?         some  sort  of  bridge  ?         

❛  — eh ?  hang on, this  ain’t  a partnership, buddy. i freed you from those fire nation soldiers because stealing food is a crime of the empire, not the poor. we’re  not  friends, i’m  not  your accomplice, and you’re staying right  here !  ❜  the firebender points to the young man — who certainly didn’t  look  like he was from here  (  maybe an earth nation prisoner ?  they had plenty of those, around here  )  and folds her arms.

of course, she only stepped in because he was  about  to be arrested, but she fled before they could get a good look at her face. she, the daughter of a fire nation general, would have been recognized on the spot, and due to her  recent  actions against the empire, that wouldn’t end well for her  or  her family, were she to be found.

better to be thought dead than a traitor.
