Bad at love(but you cant blame me for trying)
Donnie struggles to come to terms with the fact that finnley likes him back, and, classic Donnie overthink, instead of coming to terms with his own feelings, he pushes her away instead. Chaos ensues, the brothers get fed up, and finnley and Donnie are forced to a seminar with Dr. Feelings. What happens when they are forced to air out their issues? What trauma will be brought to the surface in this episode? Well you have come to the right place! Read to find out;)
âI love you too, doveâ
Finnley couldn't stop thinking about those words. Ever since the day she had been sick. It was like the phrase was burned into the back of her eyelids. always there, and always ready to torment her late into the hours of the night. It's not like she was upset by the phrase, butâŚ. But every time she imagined Donnie saying it, she couldn't help but feel warm and cold at the same time. Don't get her wrong, she was ecstatic, Elated even! She couldn't help herself. after years of yearning for Donnie, knowing(or at least she thought she knew) he would never feel the same way, seeing this gave her so much hope. hope that things will be⌠different this time. Nothing like her past crushes. Donnie had shown her how to have hope, and then slammed the door in her face so quick it made her head spin.
The first night she had been back in the lair since she was sick had been the weekly movie marathon where they all binged Jupiter Jim and classic lou jitsu movies the boys had stored in boxes, with cheap wine(a new addition provided by Raph's girlfriend, Rosa), all kinds of snacks, and some of Mikeyâs famous fajitas. She had been so excited, she had dressed up more than usual, put on make up(help from april) and did her hair. Except, She wasn't just going for the movies this time. She was going to talk to Donnie. Except, it seemed Donnie had other plans⌠turns out he had caught whatever finnley had, and was holed up in his lab. Which finnley hadn't thought much of.
But Then, after that fateful day, it seemed like every time she would come over, Donnie would suddenly catch a cold or, âDonnie can't make it, he's holed up in his lab againâ oh! Or her favorite one, he is out with his âfriendsâ. This kept going on and on, and finnley was getting fed up. So fed up that the anger started building and building untll it boiled over! She soon realized that no Donnie wasn't sick and no Donnie didn't just skip movie night for a late night of research. He was plain, outright avoiding her. Sure the research excuse was believable, but Donnie? The man who prided himself on being a lone wolf, out with friends? How stupid did he think she was? No. She would talk to him, even if she had to force it.
Finnley had just finished a shift at the pizza joint she had been working at while she finished out her degree in engineering at NYU. It was a place the boys Frequented when Hueso's wasn't open, she had scored the job through Donnie, who had helped her get everything in order. It was a mediocre job, filled with packaging pizza and dealing with subpar customers. she had been real tired after a long shift of dealing with stuck up Karen's, and entitled snobs who didnt know how to take âno substitutes' as an answer, but she had promised the boys a nice, hot pizza fresh out of the oven. So, here she was, waiting just outside the doors of the warm pizzeria, holding a stack of pizzas in her gloved hands, and burying her nose into her scarf that raph had gifted her one year for christmas. It was a pretty cold night, winter was in full swing, and snow covered the ground, coating everything in a white blanket. She clutched onto the nice, warm boxes of pizza as she made her way into the alley just beside the pizzeria, looking back and forth up and down the alley, before she placed the boxes down and bent down beside the manhole, slipping her gloved fingers in the holes and shivering as her fabric covered hands met the cold metal. She pulled it loose, huffing at the strain. You would think after 6 years of knowing the turtles, she would be used to this by now, but nope! Finally, once she had successfully pulled the mancover off, she carefully crawled down the old ladder, being careful not to step on any unstable beam, maneuvering so the pizzas were safely guarded as she made her descent downwards.
The sewers were always dark, a distant dripping of a pipe the only sound aside from her breathing and the scurrying of rats breaking the silence. It was a lot colder down here. The sewers were almost peaceful in a way. A perfect distance from the hustle and bustle of the city above, a concrete shift of energy in a way to that of new York. She had lived here her whole life, and funnily enough only found comfort in the walls of this dark, smelly labyrinth. Honestly, you got used to the smell after a while. She was just happy the turtles house had filters that aired out the smell and replaced it with normal clean air, courtesy of a certain turtle in purple who caused her heart aches. She buried her nose in her scarf again, wishing to hide away under its warmth. She hated this feeling. She hated that Donnie lead her on, and she would tell him as such when she stormed into his lab.
She took a deep, cold breath in as she rounded the corner to the entrance of the lair. She could already hear the laughter and warmth that wafted out of the boarded off entrance covered by a waterfall. She felt a lingering smile form on her face as she pressed on, walking into the lair to be greeted by Sheldon, the assistant robot and Donnie's greatest invention. Almost his son in a way if you looked at it.
âHey finn, how's it hangin', broâ She chuckled at his skater voice, shifting the pizzas to one hand and rubbing sheldons head affectionately.
âOooo is that pizza? What kind did ya get?â Nosy as ever, Sheldons eyes lit up as he caught sight of the familiar boxes. Finnley couldn't help the chuckle as she trailed her way into the kitchen, a robotic drone boy follow8ng her like a lost puppy as she placed the boxes down on the counter, shaking her head.
âDon't worry, Donnie can rest assured, there are no pineapple abominations in this batch.â She rolls her eyes sarcastically, turning to look at the drone who watched her with a buzz from his motor âwould you be a dear and get the boys? Tell them finnley brings supper!â She hums, grabbing herself a plate and slipping herself a couple slices before the boys come in and ravage it all. She just takes a bite when 2 of the brothers emerge into the kitchen. Raph, and Leo, respectively. A small figure trails behind raph, and finnley greets Rosa, who smiles back and pulls up a chair beside her.
âHey girl, how are you? I heard things with you and Don aren't too hot right now, huh?â Rosa bites down on her slice of pizza, smiling as Raph hands her a drink of her favorite soda and sits down beside her, placing a hand on her lap. They really were cute, and that was saying something considering how they started out. After the whole her dad being a mutant hater thing, and her being a spy for him, they eventually got over that bump and the two had fallen in love, it was a really sweet story, but all for another time. Finnley groaned, deflating against the counter, and looking in the direction of Donnie's lab longingly.
âIt's likeâŚever since I dropped the âLâ bomb, he's been avoiding meâŚwhich is cool, I'm totally fineâ she laughed awkwardly, pushing down the urge to cry in front of the others who all looked at her with those eyes. The eyes that screamed, they felt sympathy, sympathy that finnley just couldn't stand.
âGirl, you are clearly not fine. Donnie is being a total dick, and you don't have to be ok with that.â Rosa scoffs, taking a generous gulp from her cup and slamming it onto the table.
âI have to agree with Rosa on this one, finn. My brother means well, but he is so stubborn. You have to talk to him, or else nothing will get betterâ raph butted in, placing a hand on Rosa's to calm her down, nudging his head in the direction of his brothers lab. âNow, go. I know pizza isn't the only reason you came down.â Finnley bit her lip, about to open her mouth in protest, but Mikey beat her to it, placing his finger on her lips to quieten her.
âNope! You are going to talk it out! Dr. Feelings says so!â he all but shoves finnley out the door of the kitchen and down the hall. âNow go, we all are tired of seeing you two moping around!â Mikey gave no room to argue, making Finney sigh in defeat, smiling at their undeniable love, and almost scary determination to see the two talk it out. So, with that, Mikey shoved a plate of pizza in her hand and left her to her own devices. Finnley gulped down the nerves as she walked down the hallway, the quiet ambiance a complete 180 from the rambunctious room she had previously been in.
The further she walked into the hall, the more quiet it got. She felt the dread grow yhe closer she got to Donnie's door, the closer she got. It grew in her stomach, settling like a boulder had dropped onto her. She gulped down her nerves as she reared the door of the lab, taking in a breath as they swoosh open, announcing her presence to whoever lay inside the dark tomb. To say it was dark was an understatement, finnley could barely see two feet in front of her, having to squint in the limited purple lighting that was given off by the fairy lights Donnie had strone along the walls. She clutched the plate in her hand, coming to a stop in front of a very empty desk, the lights of the monitor shining, making her squint from the brightness. How weird, it seemed like the area had been cleared in a hurry. She huffed, placing the plate down on the desk and turning to glance around the spacious lab in hopes she would be able to spot some semblance of the turtle she had come to see.
âHey don, I brought you pizza, just the way you like it, no pineapple in sight!â She called into the lab, leaning her back on the desk where papers were strone disorganized and messy in chaos of blueprints and reference sheets. A few minutes later, she sighed, crossing her legs and scoffing as she pushed off the desk, only to sit down in Donnie's spinny chair. If he wasn't going to say anything, she would force him to interact with her.
âOh look, this perfectly clean blueprint, it would be a shame if I were toâŚ.drown it in grease!â Finnley slowly grabbed a slice of the pizza, slowly going to place it down on the blueprint only for her hand to be stopped by a very annoyed looking turtle who also looked very tired and very not good. Finnley flinched at Donnie's sudden appearance, her eyes widening at the disheveled appearance of the usually so collected donatello.
âJust because I give you express permissions to use my lab does not mean you get to tarnish my hard work.â Donnie's voice had a clip to it that made finnleys heart beat just a little quicker. She didn't know the turtle could get more attractive. She gulped, pulling herself together and ripping her hand from his. This wasn't the time for swooning. She huffed, and Finnley scoffed, crossing her arms as Donnie pulled her off the chair.
âYeah, well, maybe it wouldn't tarnish your work if you would have actually talked to me." She snapped, placing her hands on her hips and glaring at the turtle in front of her. "Donnie, it's been months. IâŚI know you aren't too good with expressing your feelings, andâŚif what I said made you uncomfortable, you can forget i said anything! IâŚDonnie, I cant handle you not being in my life, your important to me andâŚâ she was cut off by Donnie's finger, which shut her up instantly as she got lost in the sea of his auburn eyes. It was like a fire split through her body, silencing all her thoughts with one glance.
âUncomfortable? Scoff! Do you even know me? For crying out loud finnley, you could never make me uncomfortable, do you understand me?â Donnie stressed, eyes swimming with more emotions than finnley had ever seen before, she pushed it down, instead feeling the stabbing longing that left her defenseless to hisâŚallure.. she felt the tears brimming in her eyes as she pushed away from Donnie, ignoring the hurt expression that pushed through Donnie's usual calm.
âReally? Then why have you been avoiding me? Running away like a dog with his tail between his legs every time I was in the same room? Ignoring me, deflecting the conversation? Don't think I didn't notice, I'm a lot smarter then most people give me credit for-â
âI was scared!â She's cut off again by Donnie shouting his confession, which took her off guard for a moment. Her entire body froze as the silence grew between the two, so loud you could hear a pin drop. âI was scared, okay? I know, me, the great Donatello, Master inventor, Mad genius and head of Genius built Tech, and the greatest brother of the mad dogz, scaredâ he rambled brushing his non-existent hair aside in that same egotistical way that Donnie always did, before deflating and curling away. âBut believe it or not, IâŚI have feelings, strong feelings for youâŚso strong thatâŚit scares meâŚafter you confessed IâŚI didn't know what to do with myself, how to..â he trailed off, groaning as he rubbed his fingers into the bridge of his forehead, which was noticeably barren of his usual mask, which made Finnley do a double take, she had never seen Donnie this vulnerable. Hell, she hadn't seen any of the turtles without their masks ever since she first met them. This. This was intimate. She felt grateful Donnie was willing toâŚbe this intimate with her. Her initial anger ceased to exist, extinguishing as the tears of anger turned into tears ofâŚan emotion she couldn't quite place. Joy? Frustration?
âLookâŚim notâŚgood at thisâŚemotion thingâŚI'm still quite new to all of this, so I'm sorry if im-â finnley cut him off this time by pulling him into a kiss, wrapping her arms around his shoulder. His lips wereâŚunlike anything she had ever known, not that she was too experienced at this either. Before the brothers and april had come into her life, some again, some for the first time, she hadn't really dated, let alone had many real friends. All her friends for high school, excluding april, had ditched her the moment she became friends with april again, and boys were complicated. She had crushes in the past, sure(some of them the opposite gender, some the same), but that's all they really were. Crushes. She had never ever enacted on any of them, too scared of rejection. The same reason she had never told Donnie she liked him, well, until now, of course.
But, the feelings she had for Donnie were more than a crush. She loved him. She loved him like she loved to breathe. He was her sun, her light in the darkness. Of course, she could go on and on about how much she loved him, but the taste of his lips pushed down that thought for another day, making her head dizzy from the intoxicating press of his lips on hers. For a minute, he seemed to hesitate before melting into her like pudding, wrapping his hands around her and placing them just shy of her hips. It felt like an eternity as time seemed to stop for a moment between the two, before Donnie shot away, eyes shooting open as he took in a shaky breath. Finnley snapped her eyes open, face flushing as the taste of his lips seemed to linger on hers, making her stutter through her next words.
âI-i-I'm sorry I didnt-i wasnt- ohhh, stupid stupid stupid-â she cursed herself, slapping her forehead as she took a few healthy steps back, biting her lip as her eyes grew watery. Donnie's eyes widened along with hers, in a frozen state with his mouth hanging open and cheeks flushed a deep red. He seemed to sober up quickly though when he saw the tears in finnleyâs eyes.
âWoah, woah, wait!â He grabbed her hands, holding them tightly in his calloused palms, eye brows furrowing as a small frown dripped down his lips âhey! You are not stupid, youâŚyouâŚdum dum!â He shushed her, screaming the most contradicting statement she had ever heard, making her break out in quiet laughter. That made a small smirk fall on his face, knowing he could make her laugh like that made him happy. âDont apologize, okay? Not for something that IâŚI really likedâ he whispered, catching her off guard as she laughed, sniffling and wiping at the tears.
âAre you going soft on me?â She teased, snickering as he gasps dramatically, pulling his hands from hers as she lets out a loud laugh at his antics.
âI try being emotional with you and you dare mock me?â He tuts, tickling her aggressively in spite. She squirms, giggling as she shakes her head.
âHah-ha hah! I'm sorry, sorry itâs just i couldn't help it, the look on your face" she cracked into uncontrollable laughter again. âOkay, okay! Stoppp~ I give, i give! I'll be serious now!â She takes in a deep breath, losing hers from how much she was laughing, smiling from ear to ear. Donnie rolls his eyes, shaking his head and pulling her into another kiss, this one deeper then the last as he picks her up, making her yelp at both the kiss and the sudden change in gravity, as he places her on the desk, making her gasp into the kiss. He really liked kissing, it seemed. She couldn't help the smile that stretched across her lips as he pulled her deeper and deeper into him. For a second, she pulled away to catch her breath, smiling as he stared back into her eyes.
âSo, I take it this means we are dating now?â She asks, giggling when Donnie presses another quick kiss against her lips before answering.
Mikey smirked as the two entered the kitchen, both disheveled and Donnie covered in Finnley's lip gloss.
âSoooo~, I take it you twoâŚâmade upâ?â Mikey asked, an all-knowing look in his eyes as he prepped the popcorn.
âMore like âmade outââ Leo butts in, snickering into his hand as Donnie irks, hand clenching around Finnley's before he turns slowly to the smaller woman beside him with a smile.
âExcuse me, dearest, I have aâŚpest to get rid ofâ he trails off, making Finnley chuckle as he chases after his twin, shouting obscene things at him. She couldn't help the laugh that slipped from her lips as she watched her now boyfriend chase after Leo like a dog on the kill. Mikey joined in on that laughter as Raph sighed, standing up to go stop Donnie before he would kill someone. She felt the smile come back.
yeah, boyfriend had a nice ring to itâŚ
