The Devils getting so much promo and so many special and beautiful editions means it's becoming the first Joe Abercrombie book readers are picking up and that makes me so sad we Have to make it stop. The Blade Itself isn't perfect but it's still a much better first impression! I had an opportunity to get my hands onto a copy of Abercrombie's The Heroes, and after reading it I tried to search a bit more about Whirrun's sword, to see if anybody had any theory about it... And I couldn't find anything.
Because as it turns out the sword is transgender oversea X) In French it got translated as "The Mother of Swords". Probably because in French sword is a female name, just like blade, so having "Le Père des Epées" would be a bit awkward... And I mean, come on, doesn't "The Mother of Swords" sounds much more badass in the perfect way for Whirrun?

started reading "Best Served Cold" by Joe Abercrombie, it's not the first volume of "The First Law" but it is a standalone book from the series, and I had planned to read some Dragonlance and "16 ways to defend a walled city", and if I start a series or trilogy, I'm prone to start 10 other books and tv shows at the same time lmao.
I am going to make a Glokta character analysis post soon but here is a particular detail I noticed:
His POV is the fullest of internal monologue (which makes sense, given he's now an outcast and has no-one to talk to), and most of that internal monologue has to be filtered down so that the answer is somewhat socially acceptable/doesn't obliterate the listener on the spot with the sass/doesn't get him arrested slash killed when talking to his superiors. Glokta is one of the funniest characters because of that, but he also has so much to vent except apart from the void in his soul nobody cares enough to listen, not even Glokta.
...I mean when Ardee asked him how he's feeling and if he's alright in the earlier chapters of Blade Itself he nearly unravelled on the spot and so did I. Loving how Abercrombie wrote him so far.
