TheĀ City of El Paso Museums and Cultural Affairs DepartmentĀ (MCAD) is proud to present the installation and performing Artists for the 4th Annual Chalk the Block Public Art Festival to be held on October 14-16, 2011 in Downtown El Paso.
INSTALLATION AND PERFORMING ARTISTS
Poetic KineticsĀ āĀ Fire PagodaĀ is a decorative gazebo with an inverted ceiling of fire providing a safe and unforgettable environment for guests to gather and witness the extraordinary beauty of fire viewed from below.
Based in Los Angeles, Poetic Kinetics is the evolution of a decade long collaboration between skilled artists in diverse realms. With a wide base of expertise and an ongoing desire to find unique creative expressions, Poetic Kinetics brings an enthusiastic creative spirit and a deep commitment to impeccable production value to each new endeavor. They have participated in numerous events such as Burning Man Arts Festival and the Electric Daisy Festival in Los Angeles.
ABOUT THE EVENT
On October 14-16, the City of El Paso Museums & Cultural Affairs Department will host its fourth annual Chalk the Block Public Art Festival in Downtown El Paso. Attended by over 25,000 El Pasoans and tourists annually, Chalk the Block invites and promotes the participation of local and regional artists. Original works of art will be exhibited as part of a 3-day long festival. Featured highlights for 2011 include: sidewalk chalk art, performance by nationally-renowned fire and aerialist troupe Flam-Chen from Tucson, AZ, an interactive āBirdsongā installation by artist Mary Lucking, a site specific music installation by local artist Dave Ford, a āFire Pagodaā by artist collective Poetic Kinetics (who famously created works for Beijingās Olympic Park), and an animated video installation on downtown El Pasoās historic facades by Chinese Artist Jay Yan. Additionally, a partnership with The Downtown Management District will create several āPop-up Galleriesā, which are temporary art exhibits located in vacant storefronts in downtown El Paso.
Additional programming will cater to a variety of ages and interests, including: art vendors, live music entertainment, performance art, an interactive kidās zone, food and refreshments.
