he doesn't spring upwards, not necessarily — but his spine does do a highly undignified jolt when buck's hand had the absolute nerve to land on his ass like it was clocking in for a shift of its own. one second he was bent over, muttering about a busted pressure gauge, and the next, his entire nervous system lights up like the damn fourth of july rig. he blinks hard at the locker, bracing himself on the metal, trying to summon the patience of a saint he very much doesn't when buck's involved. of course he'd pick here, now, that angle, of course he’d noticed eddie. back straightens with intended delay, composure simmering just beneath his flesh, before leveling the man with a side-glance sharp enough to cut a hose line. “seriously?” he drawls, his voice repleting with disbelief and a traitorous curl of amusement. “while i'm elbow-deep behind a pressure gauge?” mouth twitches, dammit, as if his body couldn’t quite keep up the performance his mind had already committed to. “one day you’re gonna pull that and cap's gonna walk in, and i am not bailing you out.” not that he’d move. not that he didn’t already lean back just an inch more than necessary.
