Send a symbol and my Muse will admit one thing they regret.

✠  a relationship they had 

a cold irony, but the one relationship alice considers herself to truly have had, is the one relationship that never was. no labels were ever used by either party, no arrangements made, no future plans of house and kids. no what-if’s, no possibilities. and yet emotionally, it is the most she has ever felt over a single person, so much so that all the other “boyfriends” alice had, in high school and beyond, fade away to mere entries in a diary, names with no face.

she longs for yet regrets brooklyn in equal measure, spends mornings in affirmational prayer of how much better off she is without the human drug dispensary, and nights wanting to drown in liquor, bitters and drys that make her feel just like their namesakes. he took far, far more than he gave, but the sliver he gave was an entire world to alice. (( he was her world )). at once fascinated but reviled, in awe yet terrified, quietly admiring and loudly rebuking, he pulled her emotions in a thousand ways— and then none, left her feeling like an empty nib, a pen drained of ink.

but this is all her fault, she tells herself. the girl has always asked more of the world, and one day the world answered.
