((Does Vael handle anything to do with new recruits?))
[ I hope you do not mind me answering publicly, as this is a topic that does come up quite a bit — It also explains why Vaelwynde assumes a lot when it comes to the status of someone’s membership with the Dawnguard. In a nutshell, Vaelwynde will never be found around the newest recruits, and will only be introduced to them formally under the close supervision of Isran. This is due to an attempt on his life by a new recruit, back when he used to supervise inductions and crossbow training — The new recruit was obviously not reprimanded for their keen eye, regarding Vaelwynde’s vampiric features, but for his safety, he’s been kept away from them ever since. This is why Vaelwynde sometimes gets things wrong, as we saw in a recent thread with Andrius — He mostly knows people by face and not by name, as the most anyone typically sees of him is a brief brushing past in the corridor. Names mean little to him, and thus, if someone leaves the service of the Dawnguard, he won’t always realise who it was that did despite handling the paperwork that goes with such events. It also doesn't help that he cannot read the aforementioned paperwork.I don’t mind if people know of him — Rumours would obviously be abound, regarding the unseen advisor — nor do I mind if a recruit doesn’t know him at all. However, unless the other mun states otherwise, Vaelwynde will assume that any character whom has had any formal link with the Dawnguard is a current recruit. He has no reason to think otherwise, after all, and I welcome him being corrected. ]
