back when I had a money-faucet (job), I used to book metal bands in my art loft, and light myself and my friends on fire for extra zazz. and I got made a laughingstock on a forum full of basement-dwellers for my trouble.

seriously, Return to the Pit has better forum decorum than Collective Identities or Plurality Resource. oh for the days of greasy-haired metalheads clogging up the sidewalk in yuppies-ville, only to troll viciously as soon as pictures of fire and boobs appear online. 

It was the last weekend of the festival and the theme was “Sweet Endings” – they had a lot of “sweets” vendors, fudge, sweet popcorn, candies, etc.  But – that’s not what I was there for.

I wore my tartan kilt and we drove up to Holly, MI.  In years past, we parked at the festival and walked in – but this time we caught the shuttle service offsight and took the school bus.  It’s been about 20 years since I was on a school bus and I don’t remember them being so small.  But nonetheless, we were there.

As we walked the grounds, we had our ‘checklist’ of people to look for:

“Captain Jack Sparrow”

Steampunk

Disney Princesses

Goth Kids

“Freddy Krueger” (someone dresses up as Freddy Krueger and patrols the main shop area – we usually see him every year)

“Shrek”

People dressed in STAR TREK uniforms

People dressed in DOCTOR WHO costumes

People dressed as DOC BROWN and MARTY MCFLY

We only hit upon one Disney Princess (Meridia – picture below) and a woman dressed in classic STAR TREK uniform as a Science Officer.

Returning favorites:

Christophe the Insultor – pay money and he will insult your friends.  Who doesn’t love that.  I have some good quotes added to my memory for later use.

The Knotty Nauticals – The Bonnie Lass and Pirate Shantyman.  Always a fantastic time with comedy, song, fire eating, and rope walking.  Catch the “Adult Show” later in the day.  But educational and entertaining.
