synopsis: in which you two have been hanging out together like more than just best friends without any labels at all, until one day you spilled something out.

“Thank you!”

You and your best friend, Finn gladly took the takeout food that the two of you ordered from the cashier. Yet, you could not believe that he paid for the order again and not you—despite the countless times you offered to pay for the food.

“I can’t believe you did that!” you said to him, lightly nudging him on the arm.

“Did what?” he sheepishly asked, looking down at you while the two of you walked down the street.

“Pay for the food again,” you reminded him. “Next time, let me pay for it.”

“Hey, I’m the one with a job here—several in fact,” he told her. “Let me spoil you a little.” You chuckled and rolled your eyes.

“Thank you,” the two of you continued to walk together. “Next time, it’ll be my turn to pay. I don’t want my boyfriend to spend too much on me—”

And then suddenly, you stopped on your tracks when you realized what you just called him.

Behind you, his stroll also halted.

You turn around to look at him, with a look of pure, unadulterated joy. His grin was so wide—he felt so in love it must have hurt.

“Did you just say boyfriend?” he asked you, jaw almost dropping and voice full of happy disbelief.

“Oh gee,” you bashfully responded. “I hope it's not too much. I mean I do love it when we just call each other by our names without any sappy pet names at all. I guess that just slipped out, but I mean it. I really do.”

He laughed, a sound of pure happiness, and pulled you into a tight hug.

“It's not too much,” he whispered against your hair.

“It's perfect. I love it. I love you.”

“And I love you too,” you reached up, wrapping your arms around his neck and kissed him. He kissed you back instantly, his arms wrapping around your waist and lifting you off the ground slightly.

“I love being your boyfriend,” he murmured against your lips, smiling.

Even though you both went from best friends to lovers now, the two of you knew that you both do not have to change a single thing at all.

You both love the way the two of you always are.

You both definitely do not need to have any pet names just to be a couple.

Just the same best friends you always have been—only knowing the truth now: you’re in love.
