So, yeah, that worry is coming to the fore for fans of the character that she’ll be back-burnered for the man again. However, I’m hopeful that this won’t be the case as an Elizabeth fan myself. I’m hopeful for several reasons.

First of all, let’s look at Finn’s past relationships on the show: Hayden Barnes and Anna Devane.

Hayden: Other than the Blackwoods which was a story that grew out of Finn’s backstory, every single story that was featured during the Hayden/Finn romance centered around Hayden’s issues. Even the Blackwoods wound up infecting Hayden, and that is why Finn found a cure for it. For Hayden. In their time together, it was Hayden that drove the story in their romance.

Anna: Again, Anna was the key driver and just about every story that was featured during the Anna/Finn romance centered around Anna’s issues. Except for two: Finn’s family issues, first with Chase, and then Gregory. However, Finn shared that with Anna, and Anna related her own background with Robert and Robin so that her history played a part in how Finn dealt with it all. And the Hayden letter/Violet, and again, Anna helped him with Violet with her history with Robert and Robin. Still, like with Hayden, in Finn’s time with Anna, it was mostly Anna that drove the story in their romance, but there was more equality this time.

Now we get to Elizabeth. What we’ve been seeing in their closer interaction – which started BEFORE Franco died – has actually been very promising from an Elizabeth-fan point of view.

Elizabeth went to Finn to ask his medical opinion about Franco’s chance re: his cancer. He sugar-coated it at first, and she told him that she wanted him to be straight with her. Finn respected her enough to do so. RESPECT.

After Franco’s death, we saw Finn go to Elizabeth a couple of times to check on her, see how she was doing, ask her feelings, how she was handling things, her take on things. Again, RESPECT. Letting her show her side of things.

Peter and the toxin re: Chase. Finn was told by Anna he couldn’t tell anyone so Anna could continue getting the toxin to keep Chase alive and yet… he couldn’t stand to see Elizabeth not knowing the truth. So he told her the truth about Peter and that he had killed Franco. He trusted Elizabeth enough to know that she wouldn’t put Chase’s life in jeopardy by telling anyone else. TRUST.

And then we started to see where my hope that Elizabeth will not be pushed aside.

Elizabeth saw him use the antidote. And up until that point we’d been seeing things from Finn’s point of view, but now we began to see them from Elizabeth’s. She questioned him about the antidote, and then was told by Britt that she was taken off his rotation.

Instead of letting it go, Elizabeth trusted him enough to confront him openly, telling him her situation. And that is when Finn told her the full truth. Again, TRUST both ways.

We have continued to see both of their points of view from this point on. Yup, not just Finn's, but Elizabeth too. And we are also seeing both of them drive the story, actually Elizabeth more so.

Finn pushed Peter down the stairs killing him, BUT it was Elizabeth who found them right afterwards.

It was Elizabeth who first ascertained that Peter was dead, and it was Elizabeth who convinced Finn to not go to the police, to hide the body.

It was Elizabeth who was working alongside Finn to find the cure, and Elizabeth who gave him the key to finding the cure.

When Finn succeeded and Elizabeth told Finn that “he did it,” he immediately said, “WE did it.”

Finn could have called Martin Gray as his lawyer, but instead he called Scott, Elizabeth’s father-in-law.

The point I’m making here is that even in this story which so could just be FINN’s story. It’s not. It is Finn AND Elizabeth’s story. She is making so many decisions. She is driving the story JUST AS MUCH as Finn is, if not more. And what is so lovely is that despite the fears that we wouldn’t see/hear Elizabeth mourning Franco, that hasn’t been forgotten. We know because of the scenes with Carly, and at Franco’s grave, that she’s holding herself together for the boys. She still misses Franco, she’s still mourning him. She’s just trying to move on, one day at a time.
