The Morrish Idol's unusual name was given to it, because in some areas of south-east Asia fishermen have respect for these fishes, releasing them when caught and honouring them with a bow after their release. The genus name Zanclusis derived from zanklon, meaning "sickle", and is an allusion to the long curved dorsal fin.

Yellow Tang: At night, the yellow coloring fades slightly, and a prominent brownish patch develops in the middle with a horizontal white band. They rapidly regain their bright yellow color during daylight. When mating, however, males change color and have a "shimmering" behavior which makes them identifiable.

Regal Tang (aka Blue Tang): The eggs of this species are pelagic, each containing a single droplet of oil for flotation. The fertilized eggs hatch in twenty-four hours, revealing small, translucent larvae with silvery abdomens and rudimentary caudal spines. Once opaque, the black "palette" pattern on juveniles do not fully connect until mature. These fish reach sexual maturity at 9–12 months of age.

Yellow Longnose Butterflyfish are territorial. They patrol their patches of coral with a monogamous partner. However, instances of overt aggression among them, have been observed between territory holders and individuals of the same sex. Chasing is rare, but when it does occur, males chase males and females chase females. Females defend food resources from other females, while males defend territories containing a female from other males.

The Four-Stripe Damselfish is commonly found in Indo-Australian Archipelago and western Caroline Islands including Indonesia, Philippines, New Guinea, and the northern Great Barrier Reef of Australia. They can be territorial and aggressive, especially as they get older. They are also omnivores, eating anything ranging from algae to small fish or shrimp.

Pink Starfish: The pink sea star is a carnivore and scavenger. Its main prey is bivalves. How it locates buried clams is unknown, but once it finds a buried clam it will dig down to it by using its tube feet to push bits of sediment from near its mouth to the ends of its arms.

It may take it several days to dig its prey from the sediment, latch on to it with its tube feet, and pull the valves open. At this point, the star everts its stomach through its mouth and forces it into the shell. The star can push its stomach as far as 3.1 in from its mouth. The pink sea star secretes digestive fluids and eats the bivalve inside its own shell.
