Review: Final Bubble Bobble
Final Bubble Bobble is an arcade game where players are acting as one of the two dinosaur characters. When player starts the game, an intro screen shows that the dinosaurs are in a journey to the cave of monsters to save their girlfriends, in which it sets the motive of the game. Player has to defeat all monsters in the cave to go further.
In order to advance to next cave, player, acting as dinosaurs has to defeat all monster by blowing bubbles onto them and then pop the bubbles. If the monster trapped bubble is not popped after several time span, it will unleash the monster back to the cave, enraged. Monsters movement become faster and aggressive as it hops between platforms and chasing players. Another way to defeat monster blowing bubble right next to monsters. By doing it, player can simultaneously blow and pop the bubbles and defeat the monsters right away. Each defeated monster will then transform into fruits that contain bonus point.Â
As the level increases, the air current and bubble strength are changing, and more types of monsters are introduced, each with different skills. There are also bubble power ups that made little dinosaur blow special kind of bubbles.
From the very start, Final Bubble Bobble engage its player by setting the motive with short introduction. It made player able to identify them as little dinosaur embarking on a journey in the monster cave, and to get to the end of the cave, Â As the game progress, the number of monsters are increasing and platform designs become more complex. This evokes player survival instinct and also enrage them when it is becoming harder to survive.
Every several levels, there will be a bonus level in which player will be presented with numerous treasure boxes that can be opened. Each of the box contains numbers of fruits with higher scores. Having bonus levels, the game raises players greed to attain higher scores.
The game has repetitive gameplay, but it able to make player becomes attached as it progress because it made use of human’s self identification instinct using its short introductory text and characters. Furthermore, by evoking survival and greed instinct, the game able to make player become more engaged and challenged, resulting in players excitements that leads to continuous plays of the game.
