‘You wanker!’ Lark hisses at him in barely a whisper. Nicky just giggles, still staring right ahead like he hasn’t just committed the greatest act of treason possible. He narrows his eyes.

Nicky half-turns to him, speaking out of the corner of his mouth. ‘I’m about to do it again. Sorry.’ And, despite all of Lark’s muttered threats, he still does it, hurling a red shell and overtaking Lark yet again, happy little Toad speeding past the hulking Bowser.

‘Tosser.’ Lark mumbles, watching all the little animated characters go speeding past him in their brightly coloured cars. He went from 2nd to 9th, and he knows he’s got no chance of catching back up. A plan forms in his mind, sly smile appearing on his face.

‘Nicky?’ He asks innocently.

‘What- oh!’ Nicky has barely begun to speak before Lark has grabbed his face and pulls him into a bruising kiss, drawing all his attention away from the screen, distracting him entirely. He spots, out of the corner of his eye as Nicky pulls him down onto himself, that Nicky now sits in dead last.
