I decided to make a post with plenty of petitions against the surveillance of the Internet from plenty of different places. Don't hesitate to reblog with petitions I didn't put, be they from your country or not. Let's make a long chain of action.

Change.org: Stop KOSA Europe

As of the first of August, the script isn't updated so I'm providing with a new script based on the script present on Chat Control and the words of one of the petitions (don't worry I got the autorisation of the latter) that you can send during the month of August:

Dear member of the European Parliament,

I am writing to urge you to oppose all the regulations that will permanently allow the mass indiscriminate scanning of all European's messages especially "Chat Control 2.0" for numerous reasons:

1. It destroys the privacy of 450 millions of European citizens. This isn't targeted scanning, an IA will have access to all the private texts and all the photos any citizen will send to their family, to their friends, to anyone.

2. The IA is unreliable at best. It has already been known for flagging vacation photos and discussions between teenagers, the very people this measure is meant to protect, and sending those to the authorities.

3. It doesn't protect the children. Quite the contrary, if they know their every words are being read and potentially sent to the authorities, they might seize talking about taboo topics like rape.

Worst, if they don't know about sexual harassment, how can they even defend themselves against it. It is impossible to defend people by making them ignorant.

4. It would flood the authorities with false positives and drown them in mountains of conversations and photos that are irrelevant to child rape.

5. It wouldn't work. The pedocriminals don't use the sites where honest people go. They will simply continue their practices unbothered on insecure platforms and therefore be unaffected by this measure.

6. The non-permanent measure has been passed in an anti-democratic way with the measure being a rewrite of a law rejected by the Parliament, treated as a second reading (so only a majority of MEPs could stop it), just before summer break. This wasn't a fair vote and agreeing to a permanent regulation would show that democracy isn't an important value anymore.

For all those reasons, we need to fight back and we need to defend real measures against child abusers, we have to push back against surveillance measures that will affect everyone, especially the children and future adults.

This fight starts with you as our shield against these unfair, ineffective and dangerous measures that will do more harm than good.

As you can see we are not alone in fighting back everywhere against measures that go against our privacy. I am not alone and neither are you.

Spoofed emails and what to do:

Have you ever gotten an email that says it's from your account?

Does it threaten you with the release of your personal information or naughty photos or videos if you don't do it within 24 hours?

Does this 'hacker' say that they want you to pay them money in bitcoin?

Here's how you can find out who actually sent this email to you!

First, open up the email!

In some browsers or email apps, it may already have an option to view the 'real' sender by saying 'show original', but if it doesn't, there are ways in gmail and outlook where you can view the 'message source' or 'header data' to an email which contains all of the fancy information sent to servers regarding who sent what, when, where it went, ect.

Now, once you figure out how to access the message source, what you see will probably not bee stuff you recognize, as I mentioned, it's mostly metadata! But there are important things you can find in there tucked away. :)

For example, this email says I sent it to myself:

Then when reading through the header/meta data...Look what I found!

In the Return Path, there is a gmail.com address, and as noted in the above screenshot, it says it was sent from gmail.com. Thus, this email found here must belongs to the scammer!

With that in mind, I copied it, the subject of the email, the header of the email (yes they need alllll of that code, not just some of it!), the body of the email (text that comes under all that code that you see in the email regularly) and reported it here to google. You can report it to outlook too (in app via 'report as phishing email) if it's from a hotmail or outlook account.

When you get threatening emails like this that says it came from your own account, make sure to check out the metadata of the email to find out who it really came from, so you can report it too!

Remember, fighting back not only helps you, it helps others bee safe, too. :)
