Ingredients: 1 lb ground beef. 4 hamburger buns. 1/2 cup fig preserves. 1 red onion, thinly sliced. 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar. 4 slices of cheddar cheese. Salt and pepper to taste. Olive oil for cooking. Lettuce leaves for garnish. Tomato slices for garnish.
Instructions: Warm up a grill or griddle on the stove over medium-high heat. Put the fig preserves in a small saucepan and heat them over low heat until they become more liquid. Put away. Add a little olive oil to a different pan and heat it over medium-low heat. It will take about 10 minutes of cooking after adding the red onion slices until they start to turn brown. Add the balsamic vinegar and stir it in. Cook for another two to three minutes. Take it off the heat and set it aside. Cut the ground beef into four patties and set them aside while the onions cook. Add salt and pepper to each patty. A hot grill or griddle is where you should put the burger patties. For medium-rare burgers, cook for three to four minutes on each side. You can change the cooking time to get the level of doneness you want. Wrap each burger in foil and add a slice of cheddar cheese in the last minute of cooking. This will melt the cheese. On the grill, toast the buns for about one minute, until they get a little brown. Spread a lot of fig preserves on the bottom half of each bun before putting the burgers together. Toast a burger patty and melt some cheese on top of the preserves. Put a small amount of the red onion jam on top of the burger. If you want, you can add lettuce leaves and tomato slices as a garnish. Place the other half of the hamburger bun on top and serve right away.
