Why Fidelity?
By Jonathan, an Institutional Brokerage intern
Fidelity has provided me with a summer experience that has been truly enlightening and transformational. The first project I received was to list out my summer goals and the skills I was hoping to develop this summer. After writing about my lack of work with data and my desire to become more well-versed in analysis, I received 3 projects all centered around data analytics and how they apply to the work we do. I cannot stress enough how impactful this was. I was reassured by this process that this internship was not going to be comfortable. They tossed me in the deep end to directly apply myself into data analysis, but never left me without a lifeline if I needed help.
That’s what I love about Fidelity. Everyone is willing to hear you out and to help you. The culture of mentorship and learning here is unmatched. Whether it’s a fellow associate in your group or the head of HR, I have received countless opportunities to speak with a variety of people. They have pushed me to be more curious, to think deeper, to challenge and push myself to new heights, and most importantly to be a contributing member of Fidelity and the community that holds our offices.
Being an active member of our community and the communities around us is an evident core value at Fidelity. So much so that I was granted time off, as an intern, to go and volunteer out in the grand old Berkshires at a summer camp that I spent 10 years at. I went up for dad’s weekend, an event hosted at the camp in which all the campers dads come up and spend the weekend running around and doing all the kids’ activities. I went up as a mentor to a young boy who did not have someone coming up for him. Throughout the weekend we canoed, we shot arrows at archery, we swam in the lake, and we goofed around a lot! All the while I had flashbacks to when I had a mentor who graciously gave his weekend away to be with me. It truly meant the world to me to give that feeling back to my mentee.
None of this would have been possible if my group at Fidelity did not see the value in helping out the community around us. They recognize how important the role of a mentor is both within Fidelity and in the neighboring worlds around us. I have attached a picture to this essay of myself and my mentee. To me, this picture represents the true meaning of what Fidelity stands for; service to all.
