reread fidelity, thinking so very hard about all the things arthur isn't telling him. how much of fidelity's general unwellness is coming from post failed revolution clean up? eughugugh my boy my boy my boy. i find myself desperately wishing that francis Knew about fidelity's thing but he can't know bc the more people know the more likely it is for the web of secrets and lies to fall apart. francis would be so dang supportive if he knew too oh my goodness oh my god. what do you think would happen if fidelity's francis ever knew the truth?

ooooaoaaahhhhggghghhhhhhhhhhhhhh this is such a tough question. because in my heart i want to believe that francis would fix the situation but i dont think he would. like if we dropped any other version of francis into this situation (doni, ld, anyone), i think they would help. but fidelity francis is a hardened person because hes been dealing with this version of arthur for so long. key thing to remember here is that the theft of canada in this situation was really messy and bad, and if francis saw an opportunity for revenge, he would take it. and i think he knows that alfred doesn't hold real power, and might would try to snake his way in to charm alfred, would end up manipulating him to steal him from arthur for that revenge, and it would ruin everything in a crazy way. because by this point, the possibility of a successful american revolution is unlikely, so even if he respects alfred for wanting away, hes not going to do anything to help him achieve that. i think this situation would supersede Nation politics just because francis wants to get arthur back so badly and hes found an easy way to do it.
francis would be supportive yes but he would be playing his own game, and at the end of that game, he's still the person who needs to come out on top, and it would eventually lead to a betrayal of alfred in some way. because francis does not know alfred at all--his hatred of arthur is going to overpower any affection he has for this random kid after maybe a few years. he hates arthur, would kill him if he could. and also? alfred still has a crazy loyalty to arthur out of fear, revolution or not, and francis wouldnt be able to totally look past that. alfred still stood there and watched while matthew was ripped away from him, years before the revolution, and did not intervene.
thats my pessimistic view of it. IF francis were a good dude and fully fully supportive, it would be so amazing for alfred, and alfred would come to view him as a father, and alfred would learn that love is actually not like taxes, love should never be like taxes. would totally turn his worldview upside down. but i think even in that reality, it would come crashing down eventually, because as you said, the secret is very dangerous and very hard to hide, esp if another person were to know. a person with a big heart who would want to intervene and not leave it alone.
so two interpretations there for you, both ending poorly, but at least one doesn't have a terrible betrayal in it :)
