Gods I‘m glad I‘m doing all the sidequests in this game. I just got to „Payback » which focused on Cid’s and Otto’s relationship and I‘m ridiculouls emotional over these old men?

Like, you‘re telling me NOW that Cid left his cozy life and rang and name behind not for a personal slight or because he saw the state of the world, but for his friend Otto and Otto‘s son?

You telling me NOW that Otto and Charon and Tarja followed Cid from Waloed? From the start?

That Clive did not nominate himself as the new Cid, but that Otto did it for him?

And Charon tells us explicitly „what he saw in Cid, he saw in you“?

And then when I‘m already all mushy, you give us a letter from Cid to Otto like „I love you ya old sod“

Did anybody here expect me to keep dry eyes here?

(This hit me harder then Mid visiting the grave, because this was more detailed)

Like. I get, vaguely, why this a sidequest and not main content. But it rankles me that people might miss this content should they decide to skip sidequests.

This is an integral part of the Hideaway, of Cid’s story, of how the Outlaws came to be, and it’s in a sidequest.

Heck, before this quest I didnt even register Otto as more than „some NPC“ amd now it turns out he is the reason Cid the Outlaw even exists. TWICE since he nominated Clive for the role after.

Why is that not covered in the main story? Where‘s the old men banter between Cid and Otto? Why‘s Otto not even a party member (if we can even call this a party system)? Why do we not see the Hideaway pull themselves together and name Clive the successor? And while we‘re on it, why is Mid only a thing after Cod‘s not around anymore and we do not see them bonding? Square I got questions - mainly where‘s my tear jerking emotional impact

I don’t like the timeskip they did between the Typhon fight and the five years after man I really don‘t. Too clean cut, too abrupt.
