By @fevatv "Now on #FEVATV: "A Linc in Time" Documentary. #BlackCanadianHistory In 1985, #LincolnAlexander became #Canada's first black lieutenant-governor. As the first black to hold a vice-regal post in Canada, he was a symbol of society's growing intolerance for racial prejudice. Lincoln Alexander was sworn in as #Ontario's 24th lieutenant-governor at the age of 63. He grew up in an era when blacks were denied the basic rights and opportunities enjoyed by whites, something he experienced first-hand when he could not get a sales job at Stelco. He was told customers would not want to deal with a #blackman. His appointment as the Queen's representative capped a distinguished career for the first black member of #Parliament and the first black federal cabinet minister. "I want to believe it served as a beacon of hope for the black community," Alexander wrote in his memoir. #Alexander died at age 90 in 2012.
