The proximity of the fetal head to the ischial spines, or "fetal station," is a measurement of how far the fetus has descended in the pelvis (sit bones). The reference point for the station score is the ischial spines, which are located 3 to 4 millimeters into the vagina. It's usually measured using vaginal exams during labor.
