Wait wait wait, so in the Tea Boat AU, is Zuko the one that teaches Sokka how to use a sword?! Is Zuko teaching both Aang and Sokka things at the same time!? And if so, imagine Zuko and Katara trading water-bending/fire-bending moves and integrating them into their own bending.
I canât tell who would have a harder time: Zuko because Sokka and Aang are fighting over him as a teacher, or Aang because Katara and Zuko are fighting over him as a student. Probably Aang. Once Toph joins, heâll be learning three elements at once.Â
And Zuko trains/fights beside the gaang for a lot longer in this AU, so he naturally picks up a lot of their moves.Â
Hey! So I've read random chunks of DD comics, but I have trouble with the older cheesier stuff. Where do you think a good starting place might be?
Hi! I have two go-to recommendations for starting Daredevil. You canât go wrong with either, but they cater to different personal preferences, so you can pick whichever suits your fancy:
If your tastes tend toward gritty street-level stories, I suggest starting with Brian Michael Bendisâs run. Technically, his run begins with volume 2 #16-19, which is a self-contained story arc called âWake Upâ. You can start there, since itâs a fantastic few issues, but you can also skip ahead to #26, which is where the main thread of Bendisâs run begins. That will take you through a significant chunk of volume 2 and into Ed Brubakerâs run, which is tonally similar and also very good.Â
If you like stories that are a bit more swashbuckly, start with Mark Waidâs run. His is possibly my favorite DD run of all time, so I recommend it to everyoneâ and as a bonus, it was designed to be a good jumping-on point, since it kicked off a new volume. It starts with volume 3 #1. 36 issues in, the series was given a soft reboot and a new #1 but the creative team remained the same, so once you hit the end of volume 3 you can go right into volume 4. Â
If you want suggestions for how to get into the older cheesier stuff (Iâm sorryâ is what what you were asking?) I would not start at the beginning. I love parts of Leeâs initial runâ the first issue is quite solid, and Iâve always been a big Mike Murdock enthusiast (vol. 1 #25-41), for instanceâ but if youâre not used to that style, itâs⌠pretty dang cheesy and can be a slog. I suggest working your way backward to ease into the early material. Marv Wolfmanâs run (which starts with volume 1 #124) might be a good place to start. For me, itâs the point at which the comic moved from purely Silver Age-style stories to more of a modern sensibility, while still retaining some of that initial zaniness. Give that a try and see what you think!Â
Here are all of my recommendations lists, if youâre looking for more suggestions, and here is my big Daredevil reading guide. I put this together a few years ago, and Iâm still in the process of updating it to include newer material, but it should still help as a general guideline. And of course, donât hesitate to ask if you want further suggestions or recommendations! I love helping people get into Daredevil.Â
Okay that comic killed me a little, and I'm dying. Is that based off a fic or something?! Anything to fill the void within me?!
Oh, it's an AU that @garbageisland-0 made! (Its Nomu!deku btw)
@fernandidilly-yo like same tbh? I was kinda scared, but I figured I'd rather sass them than be shot crying

Two ideas for a mini fic- Peter losing his mask mid fight or some random blind guy (Matt) messing with Peter while in civvies. :P
Peter was late. Peter was oh-so-very late and the subway just wasnât going to cut it today. Stupid snow, causing delays and making it impossible to get home in a timely manner. But even with the snow still falling, Peter had his own method of transportation.
He ducking into an alley, shucking his sweater. Cold air raced along his bare arms--Aunt May had said to wear long sleeves today--and he shivered. Maybe he shouldâve found a bathroom to change in. Heâd wear the suit over his t-shirt; the thought of exposing more skin was painful.
Peter tugged the top half of his suit out of his backpack, tossing the bag on top of a dumpster to get better access. He slipped an arm into one sleeve and reached an arm into his bag to rummage for his mask.
âExcuse me?â
Peter whirled around when an unfamiliar voice spoke, still half-tangled in his spider suit. His mouth dropped open, ready with an excuse that wouldnât come. A man stood at the entrance of the alley. His brown hair was combed neatly, his red glasses sat perched on his nose. Peterâs eyes flicked from the manâs tilted head to the white cane in his hand. It clicked.
Oh thank God, heâs blind.
Wait, no, hold on, he didnât mean it like that. Peter swallowed, shifting uncomfortably. Not--not like that.
âExcuse me,â the man repeated, tapping his cane on the ground as he moved forward. It made light indentations in the snow. âI was wondering if you could tell me how far the nearest subway station is from here.â
âSub-subway?â Peter stammered. He attempted to pull himself out of the suit as quietly as he could, but it was tight, especially over his shirt. He wriggled as best he could without making a sound. âThereâs, uh. Thereâs one about four blocks uptown, I think.â
Every part of Peterâs rational brain was telling him to leave it there and book it, to run and stow his suit before he outed himself.
Peter was never great at acting rationally.
"The sidewalkâs petty icy,â he blurted. âAnd the roads too. And with the snow coming down, visibilityâs not great. Would it be okay if I walked you to the station?â
The manâs eyebrows rose marginally. Peter noticed a cut along his temple. The man smiled.
âThatâs very kind of you,â he said, nodding. Peter nodded in return--realizing belatedly that the gesture was wasted--and finally managed to take off his suit. He shoved it in his bag and donned his sweater.
âMy nameâs Peter,â he said as he tapped his arm against the other manâs in invitation.
âMatt,â the other said, taking Peterâs forearm. Matt smiled again, and they set off into the snow.
So I was just wondering what your posting schedule is going to be for Bars Can't Hold Us?
One chapter a day! Iâm actually super impatient, so chapter 2 is going to go up in a few minutes. Iâve been waiting for so long to post this.
For past big bangs I just put the whole thing up at once, but those were shorter. For something this long, I figure six thousand words a day is probably a good chunk but not too much. I donât want to overwhelm. Still more than I would normally post.
Edit: And itâs up! http://archiveofourown.org/works/9795809/chapters/22004210
fernandidilly-yo replied to your post âim not the same anon as before but OMG YOU ALSO READ TOWARDS THE SUN...â
Are you telling me that in this fic Iroh challenged Zuko to an AGNI KAI AND FOUGHT ZUKO FOR THE THORN!?!?!?!?!?
Yes, yes he did.Â
He did it because Zuko was going to work himself to death (quite literally), and Zuko didnât want to give Iroh the throne for Reasons, BUT. STILL.Â
