Inherent Miami Vice. Fender Japan continues to blow minds and break hearts. These Art Canvas Esquire models with artwork from Hiroshi Nagai were limited to 30 instruments each as an online-only offering (not for US buyers, and not even sure what territories outside Japan, if any, got a crack at these). For #fenderfriday we have a beautiful 1963 Fender Esquire Custom in its original white tolex hard shell case! - (Link in our profile). - This is one of our very favorite (and quite rare) Fender guitars; an original Pre-CBS bound-body Custom Esquire. In 1959 Fender decided to offer flashier versions of the plain-looking Telecaster and Esquire, their original standard guitars. These models had been available for nearly 10 years at that point, and perhaps thought to be lagging behind the sleeker Stratocaster and brand new liquid-sculpture Jazzmaster in eye appeal. (to send the bridge pickup straight to the jack), a Fender no-load tone (to bypass the tone pot in any position), a three-way mini-toggle switch to engage a #FenderEsquire “dark” and “bright” circuit (down — a 0.1uF cap engages; up — two .05uF caps and 3.3k resistor engage; middle — bypassed), a “Tom Morello”-style “kill” switch, a Charlie McVay G-Bender, and a dummy coil installed by Charles Powers from C.P.R. Guitars in Fairmont, W.Va.
