Respondents were asked to select as many forms or types of feminisms that they agree with, are sympathetic to, or personally identify with.

Of the 176 included respondents, 168 (95%) opted to give information regarding their preferences of feminism. Of those 168, 127 (75%) were later given the ability to state whether or not they were familiar with any or some of these variations of feminisms on October 30;  79 respondents (62%) stated they were not. Of those 79, 38 respondents (48%) identified as feminists.

Of the 85 feminist respondents, they were 41% more likely to be proponents of choice feminism than the general study sample.

Of the 36 situational feminists, 34 (94%) opted to give information as to their preferences – they largely seemed to prefer equality and choice feminism in an almost equal proportion.

I received a total of 179 responses – while there is no way for me to confirm from where each response come from, I think it is reasonable to assume a large percentage came from /r/samplesize judging by the sudden traction I obtained upon posting the survey there. Before respondents move to the questions, I forewarned them with the following statement:

Please answer as truthfully as possible - your response may be discarded if it contains profanity, explicit humor, or seemingly attempts to deliberately mislead or distort data (i.e. checking every single box in every single question even where it may be logically inconsistent, attempting to spam/flood the sample with the same responses in a deliberately obvious manner).

Of the 179 responses, 3 had to be eliminated although I did flag an additional 1 response which had the word “bullshit” on it. I decided to not enforce the rule there because I felt their opinion shouldn’t have been excluded. Nonetheless, of the 3 eliminated responses, some of them had useful or at least worth-responding feedback or commentary which I will address later, regardless of their offense to the rules.

Of the 176 included respondents, 175 (99%) opted to give information about their age.

Of the 176 included respondents, 175 (99%) opted to give information about their education.

All of the included 176 respondents (100%) opted to give information about their relationship status.

Of the 176 included respondents, 175 (99%) opted to give information about their employment status. Some of the data has been simplified, namely:

‘Out of work and looking for work’ (10) and ‘out of work but not currently looking for work’ (5) respondents have been merged into ‘out of work.’

‘Student’ (74) and several variants of ‘Student with part-time job’ (3) respondents have been merged into ‘student.’

Of the 176 included respondents, 173 (98%) opted to give information about their gender. Some of the data has been simplified, namely:

Variants of the term ‘agender’ (2) which may have included additional information have all been merged into a single ‘agender’ category.

Variants of the term ‘androgynous’ (2) which may have included additional information have all been merged into a single ‘androgynous’ category.

Variants of the term ‘genderqueer’ (2) and variants of the term ‘genderfluid’ (2) have all been merged (some overlap) into a single ‘genderqueer/genderfluid’ category.

Of the 176 included respondents, 172 (97%) opted to give information about their sex.

Of the 176 included respondents, 171 (97%) opted to give information about their race and ethnicity. Some of the data has been simplified, namely:

‘Asian, from India’ (1) and ‘Asian’ (4) respondents have been merged into the ‘Asian’ category. This does mean that the term makes no distinction between East and West Asian.

Variants of the term ‘White’ and ‘Caucasian’ (2) which denoted a European ancestry and ‘White and/or Caucasian’ (131) respondents have been merged into the ‘Anglosaxon White/Caucasian’ category.

Respondents of many diverse backgrounds have been merged into the category ‘mixed.’

‘None’ (1), ‘Race/ethnicity unknown’ (2), and ‘Human’ (1) respondents have all been merged into the ‘other/race unknown’ category.

           Starting on October 26, I made a survey which collected results from Reddit’s /r/samplesize community, a few selected colleagues from the University of Central Florida’s College of Business and Burnett Honors College, another few selected friends from Facebook and close friends who enjoy surveys as a hobby. Although not explicitly stated, the survey intended to find differences between people’s thoughts of feminism, their identities as feminists, and how they interact against their personal ethical beliefs. Before going into the results of the study, I would like to state a few points which I find notable:

1.    By no means would I consider this survey representative of social science or by any means academic – as an undergrad economics student who would like to be part of a larger intellectual academic community, I find it extremely important to note that this is, if anything, a practice on how to make good surveys for me and how to think about asking questions and should not be considered a comprehensive analysis or ‘finding’ about the opinions of Redditors, feminists, non-feminists, or even people in general. While I find consent to be important and I attempted to present my survey in as academic a way possible, there is a reason why it was listed as [Casual] under the /r/samplesize subreddit.
