There was nothing like the buzz of a campus wide event. The people, the booths, the free shit. It filled Louis with nothing but high vibes, which was a welcome change from the last two weeks. Not that he was sad sacking it around. No, to most he was his usual happy go lucky full of himself self. He went to class, worked his ass off on the ice, socialized and wrote just as much in all of his usual haunts. Well-- all except one.Â
The theatre department was a no go and had been since a certain theatre major ghosted him. Not that he was avoiding her. Nah, he just figured if she wasnât interested, heâd give her space. It was a fun night, but playing the pushy pathetic âwhy havenât you texted meâ card or worse the âlets pussyfoot around and pretend it never happenedâ card was not his style. Best to just keep it movin elsewhere and thatâs exactly what heâd done up. Up until now.
âSo what exactly are we doing here?â he asked, a brow lifting as he and Ellie stepped out into the sunshine. He was carrying a box full of random things, some of which were a table cloth, raffle tickets, a cheesy looking clapper board and other booth decorations for the enter. Food trucks were scattered about, music was starting to pour from speakers and he was more than a little distracted, marking the route heâd take as soon as he was free of his favor to the smaller theatre major. She was talking, telling him about the fundraiser and how heâd play into the raffle and ticket sales. Eats. Entry. Escort. Those were the prizes or at least thatâs how heâd remember them. Gift cards to popular restaurants, tickets to various sporting events and dates with the schoolâs most eligible athletes. And given the hockey season was barreling to a close, it was a no brainer to select some of the guys on the team. What he hadnât expected was to be included in said roster or to have Ellie call in that favor he owed her to be the face of it all.Â
Did he mind? No. It seemed painless enough. If anything he was pretty fucking flattered, but as she went on and on and on, he found himself keeping an eye out for a particularly doe eyed brunette. Not that sheâd likely bother with something like this. Department fundraiser or not, he was certain she wouldâve rolled her eyes at something as cliche as this and bounced. So he pushed her from his mind and continued walking, mindlessly commenting on his friendâs rambling until they made it to the booth.
âLouis-- Louis, are you even listening?â
âHuh?â He was eyeing a particularly delicious looking Mediterranean truck before he snapped his attention back to the blonde.Â
âLouis. This is Dove. Dove--â
She kept talking but heâd stopped listening, his easy going smile faltering, the moment he spotted the brunette standing next to her at the table and not one, but two stools.Â
Well. So much for painless.
