This post series contains all sorts of songs that I would love to share with you. Previous posts you can find here
OLDCODEX Interview Excerpt #01: About Feed A
Interviewer: With words such as âsinsâ and âfootstepsâ, you have woven your reflection on the past into the lyrics of Feed A.
YORKE.: Although we say being creative is to âimagine and destroyâ, when we have destroyed something in order to regenerate it, the thing that is destroyed can never be used again. Thatâs why remnants are left behind. Iâm standing on top of a massive collection of the remnants - that was the picture in my mind. And I want to do something with the remnants. Yet, instead of picking up and gathering the remnants, I climb on top and look over them. I was trying to match the song with that kind of mood.
Ta_2: The song got heated up as I sang it. YORKE. worked together with me during the recording session, and it went by rather quickly.
YORKE.: Ta_2 is is more in the groove when Iâm there. *laughs*
Ta_2: Compared to the directions from the director and the engineer, who focus more on the bigger picture, YORKE. saying âI want to do it this way here, can you sing it like that for me?â makes me feel better.
YORKE.: I canât say anything about the technical part though. My comments are usually like âbe even more emotionalâ, or âitâs better to act cool hereâ. Another thing is the delicate pronunciation of English lyrics. I dwell on the nuance of every one of the Râs.ăNot very sure about this sentence ><ăWe even impressed an engineer who worked with us for the first time. He was like, âTa_2 is really getting what YORKE. is saying!â *laughs* We always get each other. Thatâs because weâve been performing on the same stage, and Ta_2 understand the effort I made to take care of the Râs when writing lyrics. I guess the essence is our love towards making better music. And that has nothing to do with the selling. I wish I can get directions from Ta_2 when Iâm singing in the booth too.
ââ
Interviewer: How did you come up with the title?
YORKE.: The basic idea was âif there is something to giveâ. Although âFeedâ has the exact meaning I wanted, I was not a fan of how the word sounded by itself. Then I thought âFeederâ would be nice, but thatâs the name of a British band, so⌠*laughs* Finally I came across âFeed Aâ. I wrote it out and I liked the way it looked. I knew this was the one, so yeah.
