Medb: Thatâs kind of...cryptic and morbid, donât you think?
Fedelm: Itâs incredibly cryptic and morbid but anyway...
And Medb said: "For our army, Fedelm, what lies ahead?" Fedelm replied: "I see it crimson, I see it red." Then the young woman chanted this verse:
"I see a forceful blond man, on whom victories are built. A fierce light springs from his head, wounds hang on him like a belt.
Seven jewels play about the stark pupil of each eye. His sharp teeth are unsheathed. He wears a shirt of crimson dye.
His features are beautiful, his form pleasing to women- deadly handsome and youthful, in battle like a dragon.
Blood spurts from soldiers' bodies, released by this hero's hand. He kills on sight, scattering Deda's followers and clan. Women wail at the corpse-mound because of him- the Forge-Hound." The TĂĄin BĂł CĂșailnge, Ireland, 7th century recording
Ni cheil in banfaid Feidelm!
I am Fedelm, I hide nothing.
The prophetess Feidelm conceals it not.

âYouâre not a rock,â Fedelm says, long pale fingers fluttering as she thinks over her next words. âAnd even if you wereâis it better to let the waves pull you under, or to swim to the surface, no matter how impossible it seems?â âEven if you know without a doubt youâll never make it?â Fedelm chants, âBetter to try and die/than never to have tried/and then died.â
This is Jessica Matthews with âLittle Did I Knowâ - live in one take for #songcircles Live Lounge, at our BIMM London recording studio. Jessica is on the final year of our Creative Musicianship Degree and amazingly, only began writing songs very recently. A natural talent right here - she has already been whisked off to work with an exciting music producer on some demos - keep your eye out for this beauty!
âWhat is your name?â said Medb to the young woman.
âMy name is Fedelm, one of the women poets of Connachtâ.
'Where have you come from?â said Medb.
'From learning poetry in Albaâ, said the young woman.
'Have you the Second Sight?â said Medb.
'I have that tooâ, said the young woman.
'Look for us, then, and see how our expedition will fareâ.
The girl looked.
And Medb said: 'For our army, Fedelm, what lies ahead?â
Fedelm replied: 'I see it crimson, I see it redâ
