her eyes flit to his for a moment, shielded behind the kevlar and tech that kept the myth of the bat alive, though the blood on her hands suggested he was every bit man as he was ‘bat’. she moves quickly and quietly, patching the oozing side of the wounded vigilante lying on her floor, staining her old persian rugs and throwing her cats into a frenzied curiosity. she’s focused and, frankly, kind of nervous. grateful that holly isn’t home to catch her playing doctor. she’d never live it down. 

his words, rough and exhausted, cut through the silence of her nursing, serving as an approval for a heavier hand on his injuries.

‘ of course you have. ’ she shouldn’t have been surprised at his robotic reaction to the deep cut to his rib cage, nor should she have been surprised that he asked to be taken to her place because it was closer (an address she had never disclosed before). she was surprised, however, at how easily he had taken the hit for her and borne the brunt of the knife intended for her. chivalry isn’t dead, after all. a ‘thank you’ dangles on the tip of her tongue, but she’s far too proud to tell him now. selina kyle has never needed rescuing, not from any man and not from any bat. 

the lacquer on her nails blends with the deep red of his cut and selina grimaces. it’s not the worst wound she’s seen, but it’s certainly not pretty. it beats stitching your own back up because you pissed off the wrong mafioso. but he’s patient and acquiescing and, for once, not telling her what to do or where she’ll end up. it’s almost nice. is this a date? 

‘ i’m sure you’ve trained your mind not to feel any joy, either. ’ a beat. isn’t she funny? ‘ or is that just with me? ’ 

     “   I   DON’T   TEND   T’   BE   A   BRAGGER   BUT   if   y’   excuse   me ,   i   have   an   entire   wedding   surprise   to   plant   for   catwoman !   i   know ,   batsy - man ,   it   hurts .   bruce   wayne----   i   wasn’t   expectin’   it   either !   i   thought   it   was   a   one - time   thing   like   with   slad—   like   with   some   other   folks .   he’s   kinda   stuck - up .   not   even   in   the   you   way ,   y’know .   i’m   sure   there’s   still   plenty’a   shrimp   in   the   water   for   ya .   uh ,   talia ?   howza   ‘bout   her ?   ”

        “ How ‘bout…, you buy us a bunch of candy, we sit around and get fat, and we watch a scary movie together. Minus Alfred, I mean I love that guy, a lot, but that would be a little creepy. ”     A wide grin to press the man in her direction, eyelashes fluttered for more persuasion as she linked an arm with him, walking by Batman’s side through dark streets as if it was nothing.      “ Unless... you’re scared of scary movies ? ”
