Our trip to Japan is really soon and the fear is starting to set in now.

- I LOVED IT I LOVED IT I LOVED IT !! im serious it was amazing, esp. the ghost sightings/hallucination-style sequences where jeannie is half-dying/on the floor. im serious probably one of the best movies i’ve seen in a while <3

- the concept was probably my fav part. ive always been obsessed w red rooms/torture-for-entertainment in horror so i was delighted when i read the netflix description lol.

- i didn't know jeffrey combs was in this but it was SUCH A DELIGHT seeing his face on the screen omg

- all the death scenes were AMAZING. the bugs ?? the fragmentary shots of the doctor dying ?? haunting. 

- that being said, i really wasn’t expecting ?? almost EVERYONE ?? to die ??

A snuff site is discovered that kills anyone who visits it.

 The use of fear in the film was interesting as well as the editing method that represents the hallucinations the characters experience. There was an unusual selection of fears, not just typical ones like spiders and fire. The imagery was such that it felt iconic but also blurred together to create a more surreal kind of discomfort because the audience can’t always discern exactly which part is distressing.

 The actor playing one of the main villains wasn’t particularly scary so he didn’t suit the part that well. His voice sounded fairly normal so when he narratives the fear videos, it sounds too commonplace. There are several scenes where the protagonists explore and it’s too dark to see anything which rather ruins the immersion as you have to watch it squinting.

 The mystery is reasonably as there are a few clues trickled out as to where it’s going but how they reach some conclusions is confusing so it’s not always easy to invest in the story. The spirit antagonist wasn’t entirely a cliché although there were clearly some similarities to things like Ringu (1998). The effects involved in the spirit’s appearance were effective enough to carry her brief appearances.

 Overall, the plot was a bit too convoluted and it occasionally made it so deliberately complex that it’s not always clear where clues come from or the exact motivations behind the antagonists. There are some odd leaps of logic regarding the internet and ghosts. In addition, it seems random that the spirit was able to infect a website and takes revenge on randomers.
