Death By Cerridwen (c) Stephanie Painter
                Month 2 (December 1, 2020)
Everyone was asleep in their respective areas, resting for the new day. Outside the first snow of the year began to cover the area. The silent fall of this white blanket was somewhat like a lullaby to the 6 young adults, but all good things never last.
There was a banging at the door which awoke everyone except for Izzy, who was gladly snoring away. Kristan grabbed her shotgun along with Cade holding onto his fully loaded gun, and Alice gripped her hunting rifle that lay at her side. They pointed their weapons at the now loose door as Tasha and Lenny tried to wake Izzy up. Once sleeping beauty was awake, as if a timer just went off, the door was broken down and infected started to pour in.
Since Cade was the closest he was tackled first. They soon piled on top  of him. Kristan grabbed a nearby two-by-four because she didnât want to risk shooting Cade. After a few swings, Cade was able to break free of the horde. Kristan just got a glance of Cade before heading off to help the others. With Izzy off to the side accompanied by Lenny, the rest of the group continued to fight the infected. For the next few moments the sound of gunshots and breaking of bones from the infected echoed throughout the place. Then there was a shriek that resorted from one of the two that were not fighting. The other four turned to see an infected ripping into Izzy and Lenny brandishing his Glock trying to scare the infected off of her. It was all for nothing. Nothing was saving Izzy from this. His hands were shaking violently from utter terror. A gunshot rang through the air. The infected fell to the ground with blood gushing out of its forehead.  Everyone was shocked trying to grasp what had just happened. The group turned to where the rang resonated from which happened to be Alice, staring at her younger sister with tears streaming down her face.
Unfortunately, the noise attracted more infected  to the abandoned house that they called home for a month. So Kristan took a moment, while bashing heads with the butt of her shotgun, to think of what they would have to do next. She finally decided that the best plan of action was to leave DC and go looking for a new city to set up camp, in order to keep everyone that hadnât already gotten bit safe.
âWe need to evacuate the area now!â Kristan barked to the others as she broke a nearby window. Cade and Alice shot off a few more heads before leaving through the newly busted window. Tasha took Izzy and Lenny through the open doorway with Izzyâs blood dripping behind them. After everyone was out and had their belongings Kristan went out the window, trailing behind the group just to stop for a moment and watch the infected storm the house.
âWe should head north. Iâve heard over radio communications that there are less infected up that way.â Tasha said with a bored tone.
âFunny, âcause I heard the opposite.â Growled a near by voice, which happened to be Aliceâs.
âWill you both be quiet for a moment. Alice I understand youâre worried and want to do everything you possibly can for you sister at the moment but you need to keep your cool. For the past few months you have been the glue of this group and we need that glue to stay now more than ever. Tasha was just letting us know what she heard and now that we heard what you have learned I have come up with what I think will be the best bet to do next. I say we go south for now so we can have a bit more light and warmth.â Kristan ordered as she continued the direction that she was going. She took a deep breath and let out a long needed sigh. She soon looked to her right to check on Lenny, who was staring at the ground with a puzzled look on his face. Lenny was trying to get over the fact that his first crush was now being slowly changed into an infected.
Kristan soon started to think about what she saw during the battle. When she finally got the infected off of Cade she saw a bit of blood on his clothing. This was a worrying sight for Kristan because of they had two people changing, this shit just got a lot harder for the group. It was hard enough traveling when someone got the flu. She started to think of solutions to this now apparent epidemic that they had gotten themselves into.
Feet crunching snow was all that could be heard as they continued to walk south for what seemed like hours. Kristan made the decision  that they would stop and set up camp. Kristan and Tasha went off to find a good area to hold down for a while, in which they soon found another rundown house that looked like it also had a fireplace. Kristan sent Tasha to go get the others while she went and scoped the place out for any hazards.
âIs it all clear?â Alice yelled. Kristan flinched into a battle ready while cocking her gun and aiming around the room frantically waiting to see if any infected would come into the open reacting to Aliceâs yelling. Once she was done going through the house she went outside to see the group all lined up.
âAlice is your head screwed on correctly? You could have gotten me killed!â Kristan snapped, âYou need to get your head out of the clouds! You not paying attention or not thinking could end up with you or one of us dead.â
âSorry Kristan⊠I wasnât thinkingâŠâAlice said looking down at the ground avoiding eye contact with Kristan. Kristan sighed and felt yelling at her was like kicking a puppy. she went over Alice, placed a hand on her shoulder and gave her a comforting smile. Well, the best smile she could muster since she didnât really smile anymore.
