“You don’t get to show up now.”

“it’s simple.” aurora pulled back the blankets on her bed and put the trash can right next to the mattress. “you’ll just lay in bed so it looks like i’m there. i told them i have the stomach flu and i wanted to sleep so i think they’ll leave you alone for the whole night.” aurora was already gathering her things and putting them in a gym bag she stole. they were just there as an extra precaution in case someone came inside. “i’ll be back by nine sharp. is there anything else you need before i go?” if she was going to go, she had to leave soon.

Lark smiled at the other woman. “I’m sure we could think of something,” she said. It really did look like the dress was made for Vivienne to wear. “I can tell you want it. . . how far out of your price range is it?”

her whole body just ached, she was so tired and the worrying isn’t making it any better. if anything, it just made annie so sick and it worried the people around her. “are you sure? i can stay up a few more minutes.” it was late anyway, they shouldn’t have to stay up to look after her.

“Oh come on, you should have seen your face. It was just a little blood and it wasn’t even mine.”

“It wasn’t that bad, honest. Looked worse than it really was.”

“because i didn’t really think it mattered. no one’s called me susan in years.” stargirl was her real name, that wasn’t going to change for her. “the last time i tried to go by susan, it didn’t end very well.” she almost felt like a different person then. she fit in but she hated everything about it. from her drab clothes to even what she talked about, it wasn’t her. 

“How else would I know from library to library where to find mythological tales regarding deaths committed by animals? If I asked a librarian that I think I might be profiled permanently as a serial killer.”
